Re: Coaching issues

That was hard to watch. I can't be bothered typing out a long analysis. We just absolutely suck in every way at the moment and it's not just that we've lost some key players. Our team has no idea what to do in attack, our line speed lets the opposition stroll upfield so easily every game, and our go...

Re: 2024 Round 8 v Sharks: Game Day

That'll do me. Switching it off. We are absolute garbage in every way right now.

Our attack has got absolutely nothing, defence is lazy and feeble, tactics are not existent. I think we're a solid chance at getting the spoon this year.

Re: Coaching issues

Rickmando is on the money and so is Perthraider86. I'd love for Ricky to be our version of Gus and take a step back from the hands on coaching because our attack has never really looked good outside of 2016-2018 (it wasn't even good in 2019 but our defence really pulled it together that year), and o...

Re: Newcastle Knights sign Canberra Raiders back James Schiller

Well this sucks. I definitely would like to have kept him. He's a valuable squad member for this year because on top of what he can do for us on the wing, we also have no backup centres for Kris/Timoko. His defence is terrible but it can only improve and I love having speed in the backs! If only New...

Re: 'We definitely 1 million per cent want to keep Trey': Raiders keen for Mooney to stay

100% Coastalraider. 100 bl00dy percent! We were critical of the first grade team for most of 2023 for fading when the second middle unit came on. Saulo has been better this year (still only cracked 100m one time mind you) but last year he was pretty damn ordinary and was given the jersey for the who...

Re: Ethan Strange agrees to terms for four year contract extension

Cotric I presume would be a low tier offer. I personally think Cotric needs to reinvent himself as a second rower. He’s just too slow for a modern day winger and seems unable to get himself into space. He's got the build for it. If you stood him next to Angus Crighton I reckon they look pretty damn...

Re: Ethan Strange agrees to terms for four year contract extension

Thrilled about keeping Strange around for 5 more years. On the other hand, we almost need a new thread to discuss why oh why the club is opening extension talks with an overpaid, underperforming winger who's just been dropped to reserves and overtaken in the pecking order. As a winger, Cotric is now...

Re: Parramatta Eels still hoping to hold onto Raiders target Ethan Sanders

i think it's pretty obvious at this point that the eels picked sanders in their top 30 this year as a last ditch effort to keep him and when it became obvious to them that he is gone they've chucked the toys out of the pram and are now refusing to pick him for first grade. I think all of the calls ...

Re: 2024 Round 6 v Titans: Chevy Stewart to debut

Credit to Ricky for making the right choices this week. I would have been very unhappy to see one or both of: A. Guler brought back in to replace Hors B. Kris moved to fullback and Cotric brought into centre. I think both of the above were highly possible and would have been classic Ricky selections...

When hopoate "has" to come back in, it should be at centre with Kris to fullback. Stewart is showing good signs in cup, strong, not getting driven back, takes hard carries, I'd say not quite ready, but close. Just to give rapa a week off for niggles Disagree. Savage will catch a cold outs...

Re: 2024 Round 6 v Titans: Teams and Previews

Not sure that Woolford is a suitable bench player. He is solid and good at delivering crisp ball to get the forwards rolling forward and defends well but doesn't offer much in terms of a running game and basically every time he kicks its a disaster. Starling at least brings a change in style that m...

Re: 2024 Round 5 v Eels: Game Day

Schiller is worth persisting with. Hoppa just cant do what he can and Hoppa's nothing special in defence either so it's not like we'd be replacing Schiller's crap defence with some sort of defensive god. I'd rather have outside backs who are capable of doing something with the ball. Something more t...

Re: 2024 Round 5 v Eels: Game Day

Gee it's good having speed in the team again! That was so much more enjoyable than the majority of last year's wins. It was almost a throwback to the Campo glory days where Colin Best and Phil Graham we're scoring long range tries for fun. I thought Fog's kicking game (excepting goal kicking) was th...

Just confirms seniority not form is how Stick operates. It’s why EW is starting every week. Yeah it's a BS comment from Ricky. Most coaches go by "when you're good enough, you're old enough". Ricky seems to have flipped those adjectives in his head and thinks that age is an acceptable met...

Re: Parramatta Eels still hoping to hold onto Raiders target Ethan Sanders

I think our players can be a bit overrated around here. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

$500k is not that much in the context of an $11.6M salary cap. I know there are a few intricacies to the cap so it's not as simple as $11.6m/30 = $387k, but I would argue that any player who is clearly top 13 should be worth $500k +/-. Benchies should generally be worth less on average and then sala...

Strange will get one of those deals and Timoko will take most of another. Sanders probably a good chunk of the third. The cap is planned and allocated years in advance. Based on the Leluia and Fifita rumours they do have a chunk of cash but signing three in demand players isn’t realistic. It’s 10 y...

Agree on all of the above. Line speed and effort in defence were a big issue on the weekend and something the Raiders haven't been very good with over quite a long time. It was frustrating watching the Sharks running 60-70m on every set as the game wore on. I also noticed the shallow kick offs and t...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

If we get rid of Cotric (which we should IMO), then we're going to have 3x$600-650k contracts off the books next year - Cotric, Whitehead, CHN. Assuming the CHN situation is finalised by then. So I feel we should be looking at what sort of players we can bring in for those amounts. If we managed to ...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

Well Turuva first made a household name for himself playing fullback for Fiji and it's his preferred position so I don't think he needs to be "converted". I also don't think 21yo premiership winning fullbacks who can also kill it on the wing are a dime a dozen. Besides, we currently have a...

I'm surprised there hasn't been any chat in here about making a play for Sunia Turuva. And yes I know the club wants Ch...

Re: 2024 Round 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews

My major issue with Starling is that any squad he has played with over the years has no indication of when he will run, or what do do when he does. The tigers are starting to have systems coached into them for when Api goes for a scoot - ie xx position players go AS SOON as the run starts… Starling...

I read that Stefano has a clause that if the Tigers don't play finals this year he can leave so that move may still be on the cards. Hopefully it is because I don't want Melbourne to come after Mooney. If they do though, he'd be mad not to go for it and he'd be a great pick up for them.

Honesty I don't mind Hoppa as much as many others do but I'm absolutely on board with wanting outside backs with more attacking ability then he has. A more relevant metric than metres/pcm is metres per run. Hoppa makes good total metres/pcm because he is so willing. He does it through volume of work...

It's some encouraging moves. I note that the dropping of Hoppa was a forced change and probably wouldn't have happened had he not burned himself so I'm not viewing this as too much of a 'seeing the light' kind of moment, but dropping Guler is absolutely a good start. 100% Hors, Ata and Mooney are the best 3 options. We need to get these 3 in. I just watched the game last night and my thoughts on it are: - Whitehead looks HEAVY. I think he's put on weight over the offseason. The commentators remarked that he was out on his feet at the 15 min mark and tbh he did F-all in that time so it's a worry. - Hoppa should never play centre (or fb). ...
