I was really pleased with that performance. I thought we looked really good. If you consider in the second half Jason Croker got stepped and then Boyd got stepped and that was 14 points. Both are a bit of a liability in this. We also had no idea how to play the nines game - goal kicking and the short kick off at the end was terrible. Also Williams is not the best half for these games. He is too structured.

But if you look at it as a trial for the season there was a lot to like. Baptise man of the match for me.

I can't see why you wouldn't give Otto a contract. Looks a real athlete even if he is very raw.

1st half we were structured , it wasn't until the 2nd half we started off loading.
JK missed two costly tackles.
Young Croker looks good

Hopefully we can get another win

The offloads from front rowers are the killer. If they can draw 3 players and still get the ball away...with the likes of Rapana, Santo and Waqa in the back line you can shut the gate.

I thought we looked good considering the players left at home. We had a bit of luck, but on the whole we played much better football than the Drags.

Was that Clydesdale who played hooker when Baptiste went off the field?

Both looked very good.

He was very good but he played like a traditional half back. Not having a go at him that is his game and against opposition less than top class he dominates. But when we need something a bit out of the ordinary, i couldn't see him doing that. Compare him to someone like a Milford who in those games would be jumping around everywhere throwing flick passes etc.

That ladies game was really good
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Highlight for me was Joshy throwing the intercept and that oh so familiar dropping of the head thinking "ive done it again!"

And last play of the game, Dugan throwing the ball over the sideline.

Ite the 9's but good to see us win, and hopefully no injuries the rest of the tournament... because someone will get injured for sure

Good to see the woman having a slog, some real fitness and skill on display. But if you really want to see an entertaining game of women's rugby league tune into the Female Torres Strait island of origin game, on NITV. They are huge, some of the shots are bigger term than nrl. The various islands in the Torres Straits must really hate each other (much like qld/nsw) because the spite in this match is unbelievable. Suprised some of the Torres strait girls aren't in the Jillaroos to be honest.

Match Report Raiders vs Dragons

The Raiders clinched a thrilling 28-20 victory over the Dragons in their opening game of the Auckland Nines.

In a see-sawing match up the Raiders prevailed in the final minutes with tries to Lachlan Croker and Luke Bateman.

The Dragons opened the scoring before Jordan Rapana showed great footwork to grab the Raiders first. Twice forcing the Dragons into line dropouts, the Raiders were unable to capitalise on their superior field position, coughing the ball back up to the Dragons on both occasions

Obviously it is not an issue overall, but he didn't get back to marker and they ran through. It was Vaughan who also got stepped for their other second half try.

I also watched the game again and yes Williams was very good. Probably the best player out there but I maintain he played exactly the same way he would in the 13 man game.
