Fastest players in the NRL

Fastest players in the NRL

In the nation’s capital, the quickest over 20 metres is back-up fullback Zac Santo. While the Raiders are keeping the times close to their chest, Jordan Rapana is the quickest over 10 metres.

The Raiders only test speed over a short distance, so they can focus on a player’s speed off the mark and acceleration.

Last season, Rapana recorded 1.55 seconds over 10 metres, while fullback Jack Wighton clocked 1.59sec.

I'd like to see all clubs enter their four quickest players and have a 100m showdown. Heats, semis and a final...

Otherwise the fastest players in the NRL are the ones the police can't catch.....

Couldn't read the article because I was blocked,
however going by the eye test I'd say some of the fastest first graders are

French
Cronk (I think his speed is under rated, rounds players up quickly)
Roberts (his speed is probably over rated, might have lost a yard from 2 years ago?)
E.Lee (very poor short distance speed, he'd be the first person I'd put a grubber behind as it takes him an age to turn around and chase, but long distance he's quick)
Addo Carr
Johnson (looks quicker when he's weaving between players)
Tedesco

Semi is pretty quick, but also uses his power
Turbo was rounded up by Wighton, but I guess he had a head start and it was near the end of a game where he had heavy involvement
Granville is quick for a hooker

There look to be some quick up and comers
Manu
maybe Dufty? (haven't seen much of him)
J. Field looks like Feeney before his injury
Ponga reminded me of Shif a bit with his acceleration

I'd say there are some obvious ones I've missed
From the Raiders Croker looks quick

From what I saw in the 9's I didn't think that Santo was very quick at all.

He is quick, but couldn't break out of a wet paper bag so even at the 9's he never got into open space.

Massively underating Jack, he's run down Tedesco and Trbojevic after giving up a start on both over about 50m

Vossy was saying in the 9s that Vunivalu is quicker than Ado Carr at Melbourne.
Apparently the Storm had a match race between the two of them

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if Wighton is our fastest over 100m. He's a gun.

Tedesco definitely has the best running action. All his potential speed is realised by not wasting his stride.

Dugan on the other hand is atrocious, he loses so much potential speed by wasting energy with sideways arm and partly sideways leg action.

Watch Tedesco in comparison and his stride is long and pulling him straight.

I don't think he is really in the conversation for fastest player, but the bloke that always surprises me is Croker. Never looks like a standout when it comes to pace and yet I've lost count of the amount of times he's outpaced someone I expected him to lose to. I think its because his top speed isn't as high as a lot of others but he has good acceleration and probably more importantly is just very determined.

With different clubs having different speed tests its hard to line up. In judging the fastest Rugby League player I'd say anything from 40m-60m would be an accurate guide. 100m is useless as they will only sprint over 100m once or twice a year at most. Shorter distances speed is important for creating opportunities but not as good if you get run down 30m into your break.

40 yard time is the standard measure in the NFL. Would be good to have something similar in league.

Konrad Hurrell surprises me. He's faster than many think but no way I'd have picked him a faster than Hayne.
