Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback as he nears the end of his drugs suspension
Former Canberra Raiders winger Sandor Earl is readying himself for an NRL comeback as he nears the end of his drugs suspension, declaring: "I want to go out on my own terms."
Earl's four-year ban for taking and trafficking performance-enhancing drugs expires on August 29, meaning clubs could potentially sign him up for their charge to the finals should they have the salary cap space.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
Depending on if we resign Kato, and if cotric gets poached (unsure of his contract length). Sandor would be perfect outside back depth for 2018, maybe even starting over Eddie

He was the only NRL player to cop a real suspension after the "blackest day in Australian sport". I'd have him back even though he may only play for the Mounties.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
Lets not forget how solid a player he was for the Raiders.
I think he's a decent player, good hands and knows where the try line is.
He's just about served his time and along with blokes like Packer, Wicks etc deserves to be given at least an opportunity to play again.
If he knuckles down, trains hard someone will give him a shot. If that's us I'm fine with it.
Good luck Sandor...

Nostalgia says yes.
However, i think our roster has passed him by.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
I have always considered he was harshly done by compared to the penalties handed to other teams and players. During his suspension he has shown plenty of determination to stay on track with his life by staying extremely fit and staying motivated.
It might take a while to get back into the game but he has the skills and dedication. I would love to seem him back in green.

He has done his time and deserves the opportunity to prove himself. Not sure if he will be able to break into FG but if, like Taylor he's prepared to earn his shot I would be happy to have him back.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
compared to what happened to the other players who were found guilty Sandor paid the price 20 times over and IMO did it with dignity and respect.
My heart wants him back to go out on his terms and he was always respectful and positive about our club and most of the fans
but I am just not sure we have a position for him and sometimes we have to put on our business hat and take of the sentimental one

You'd have to keep him and Hodgo apart

He actually didn't sound like he really expected to stroll into a first grade lineup, just wanted a shot at getting to one. I hope he manages that chance wherever it may be.

He's actually playing in my oz-tag comp down in Melbourne at the moment, which is pretty funny. We beat his team pretty convincingly last week. Possibly because he wasn't playing haha.

I can only see him playing for the Mounties, i think the Raiders should give him a pass, maybe he can be given another role within the club.

He is looking to play football not for a job. He has enough business interest.Raiders74156 wrote:I can only see him playing for the Mounties, i think the Raiders should give him a pass, maybe he can be given another role within the club.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
I said this sometime ago but he has a handshake deal with Don as he is always welcome back however that was before Ricky was on board.
He would be a good replacement for Lee if Lee has a poor season and doesn't get re-signed.
His heart is set on the Storm so he can continue running his business in Melbourne.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
The one thing in his favour is he's been training the house down for the last 4 years, so strength wise he'd be fine just conditioning and match fitness

A lots changed in 4 years, he would struggle and I dnt think it would fit in with Stickys mantra
Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
If he can fit in with Bellamy, I suspect he could fit in with Ricky.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
The NRL will allow Sandor Earl to return to training once his drug ban is over
Melbourne Storm is on the verge of throwing an NRL lifeline to drug outcast Sandor Earl.
"You never say never," Storm football manager Frank Ponissi. "We haven’t said yes or no but he’s based in Melbourne and we’ll definitely have a chat. We’re probably more looking at him for 2018 but you never say never. It could be fast tracked if we had to."

We do need a winger but unless we can guilt trip him to sign with us I suspect he'll end up on Melbournes books

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
He's going to have to sign on for peanuts at whatever club will take him. It might as well be the Raiders. With Edrick gone he'd be second only to Rapana in terms of FG experience and with Aiono and Naden not overly impressive in pre-season it would be handy to have Earl on the books.
Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
But with his business intrests in Melbourne I fear that will be the deciding factor. Shame as another redemption story would ensure more positive press... generallyGreen eyed Mick wrote:He's going to have to sign on for peanuts at whatever club will take him. Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
If he's content to round out an extended squad than that's definitely his best option but IMO, if he wants to play FG he's going to have to make a return to rugby league his sole priority.
Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
Valid point, I guess we'll all know by mid year as I'd say his next team will be well and truly lined up by thenGreen eyed Mick wrote:If he's content to round out an extended squad than that's definitely his best option but IMO, if he wants to play FG he's going to have to make a return to rugby league his sole priority.

Re: Sandor Earl ready for NRL comeback
Really surprised by the love for Sandor... i wouldn't want him anywhere near the club again. Dead set scumbag of the highest order imo. You guys really want a guy who was found guilty of dealing performance enhancing drugs?
