They extended him for this season already.
We probably wouldn't have the money to get a player to request a release and pick them up for 2018, but somebody like that could be alright for a 2019 target. I think we should be targeting a half as well coming off contract in 2019, if Maloney is heading to Penrith to partner Cleary in the halves, Tyrone May might be looking for a starting spot elsewhere.
Keary also comes off contract in 2019 but looking like he might want to go before 2018 kicks off... maybe with all the cash Roosters gave to splash, they can trade us him for Austin and use Blake as their utility.
Don’t ignore the prospect of the Green Machine landing a knockout blow. Pearce has mass-respect for Raiders coach Ricky Stuart. He wanted to be coached by the former Test halfback at the Roosters but Stuart was moved on a few months before Pearce made his NRL debut.
Exiting the Sydney fishbowl could also benefit Pearce. Working against Canberra is that Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin still have one year to go on their contracts.
Our halves aren't signed up beyond 2018... If we signed Pearce for 2019, that could cause one of our halves to want to look elsewhere early, and may even ask for a release in 2018 if he finds a deal. Then we could get Pearce early on a release. I get that it's purely speculation, but it's not impossible. And we're usually pretty quiet about our contract negotiations... Maybe we need to release a player because we've budgeted for a signing like this. You never know
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
I’d send both our halves packing for Mitchell Pearce
I don’t care how hated he is by lunatic NSW blues fans who think he’s responsible for QLD having the best origin spine ever assembled, he’s a fantastic half
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
We were about the 4th choice down on the list in a space-filler Daily Terror off-season article. He's not coming, no way. Mitchell Pearce likes to be the big star in glittering Sydney and all that offers. Canberra isn't his speed, I'd be surprised if a line wasn't drawn through his n... name.
I'm not sure we as fans are in a position to turn our noses up at a halfback like Pearce. He is excellent in club football, just a rung below rep level. Which is a rung or two closer to rep level than our current halves.
Yeah I don't have much hope that we'll sign him, but he's definitely an upgrade on both of our halves... there's no doubt about that. And this is coming from somebody who has talked a fair bit of smack about him over the years.
