Queanbeyan Leagues Club proposes $30 million redevelopment

Queanbeyan Leagues Club has lodged plans for a $30 million extension and refurbishment that it says will bring Monaro Street to life and support the development of the CBD master plan. However, the proposal will mean the partial demolition of the heritage-listed former Bradbury’s Brewery site next door, with the facade retained and updated as part of the refreshed streetscape. Also to go will be a neighbouring 1969-built four-storey office building, the existing car park and nine trees, although there will be new plantings.

The proposal would massively improve the entrance which has shifted to the rear of the building. The Monaro Street entrance sadly closed quite a while ago. The office block that was annexed… and I think it used to have squash courts… would be demolished, opening it up for a new entrance and a much better car parking area.

It extends the gaming area into the nearby building. Hopefully, the dining area still has a view over the river. As is too often the case with clubs, there isn’t enough in the way of views from inside to outside.

A bit sad that the Monaro Street facades are basically blank walls, doesn’t really invigorate the street scape. But it does look pretty good.

Doesn’t do anything with the upstairs which housed the old Raiders Nightclub. Looks like it just refurbishes offices of the Raiders Group.

Overall, a massive improvement.

Did you go out there today to take those photos, GE?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I was out there for lunch today. They have a good steak. Thought people might like to see what the club looks like right now.

If people would like to see how the other Raiders clubs look, I'll take some pics of them too next time I'm out at those. Until recently, the QLC retained a separate identity, given the history as the Queanbeyan Blues club. But they've recently rebadged it as a Raiders club.

I'm a member at the Queanbeyan Kangaroos as well and they have great steaks too. Really nice club inside these days, with a couple of areas with a great view of the field at Freebody.

Plans look great. Queanbeyan is on the up. No surprise the gaming area is being extended. I'm sure it's helped us sign a few players over the years.

Ah! I do sometimes as a small donation to the club, but not today. I basically set a small amount as the limit. Lotto and charity prize home raffles are about the extent of my gambling.
