Now we concede a penalty on the last when we had them pinned 25m out.

Hola high tackle. Coach killer.

70th min TRY BULLDOGS to Toby Sexton, his second and it was just too easy. The Raiders haven’t really looked like scoring in this half. That’s the game. Sexton misses the relatively easy conversion.

MATCH REPORT: Bulldogs hand Raiders first loss of 2024

That's a remarkably good put down in the corner from Esera. The ball was over the sideline and he brought it back in under his body.

Nice linebreak from Trevelyan, not sure about the chip ahead option, but gave us a crack I guess.

MATCH REPORT: Raiders NSW Cup side suffer first loss of season

The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup side suffered their first loss of the season after they went down to the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs 26 – 20 this Sunday afternoon.

The match started off with a bang, after quick thinking from Adam Cook opened the door for centre Prinston Esera to score in the first three minutes. Canberra forwards continued to bulldoze, with Peter Hola scoring Raiders second try of the day.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders. Undefeated no longer in the 2024 NSW Cup competition. They led the Canterbury Bulldogs by 10 points at half time in Sunday's Round 6 clash at Canberra Stadium. But a lacklustre second half from the home team saw the Dogs run out 26-20 winners.

The Raiders were the first to score, with Adam Cook setting up a try for centre Prinston Esera in just the third minute. Peter Hola quickly followed up, with a good dummy half pass from Zac Woolford putting him in under the posts. In the 18th minute, two superb long passes from Zac Woolford and Adam Cook saw Nick Cotric cross in the corner. The Raiders led 16-0 at the 20 minute mark and they seemed well in control. However, a try to bench forward Lachlan Vale just before half time, allowed the Bulldogs to trail, 16-6, at the break.

Canterbury virtually scored from the kickoff in the second half, with lock Jack Todd making a break near half way - setting up a try to second rower Harry Hayes. Dogs forward Kitione Kautoga crashed over in the 50th minute, with the conversion from Toby Sexton levelling the match. In the 64th minute, Bulldogs half Joseph O'Neill kicked ahead - and Canberra bench hooker Adrian Trevilyan was unable to cleanly defuse. The loose ball was pounced upon by Sexton in the in goal. Sexton quickly followed up with a second try - making an easy run to the line. Prinston Esera completed a double in the shadows of full time - following an Adam Cook kick and grounding it in spectacular fashion. But it proved to be a consolation try only.

This round: The Raiders remain in second place on the ladder - but they are now three competition points adrift of the Panthers. In Round 7, Canberra heads to North Sydney for a clash with the Bears. The Bears are coming off a 30-28 loss to the Eels at Western Sydney Stadium on Saturday night. The Bears lead 28-14 at the 50 minute mark. But the Eels scored three tries the space of 10 minutes, to go ahead by two at the 70th minute. Neither team could add to their tally in the final 10 minutes of the game. Maika Sivo and Zac Cini both got doubles for the Eels. The Bears have recent wins over the Dragons (28-4), Warriors (38-18) and Magpies (42-16). They've also suffered a big recent loss to the Knights (50-24).

The Raiders beat the Bears, 36-14, on the eve of the finals last year - and it looked like Canberra might give the title a shake. But injuries and suspensions at the club seriously impacted the NSW Cup side. The Bears went on to make the Grand Final, falling just short against the Rabbitohs (22-18) in the premiership decider.

Team news: The Raiders have failed to name a full squad, with the team list missing a centre and a starting prop. Simi Sasagi played at centre last weekend, and Emre Guler at prop. Sasagi has been named in the NRL squad on the bench, while Guler is on the reserves list for first grade. The Canberra team is otherwise unchanged.

6th min PENALTY BEARS for a high tackle in the red zone. It is on report. Didn't seem to be much in it, more that Riley Meyn fell awkwardly as he was being tackled.

PENALTY GOAL BEARS from in front for Kieran Hayman.

Bears 2-0

Jerry Key knocks on the kick off. Raiders scrum 20 metres out from the try line.

9th min TRY RAIDERS to Luke Webley, off a great pass from Adam Cook. It was almost too easy. Adam Cook's passing game is outstanding, at this level at least. Cook converts.

15th min TRY RAIDERS to Mitchell Spencer. Nick Cotric made a good break up the middle, after breaking the tackle. Then the Raiders put on a beautiful move, shifting to the right. Waitere gets the try assist. The Bears' defence has very little intensity. Cook converts.

23rd min PENALTY RAIDERS in the red zone. The Raiders chaser ruled to have been obstructed. That call is actually a bit lucky. But now Emre Guler makes an error on an early tackle.

I think Chevy is safe in NRL at the moment.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

27th min TRY BEARS to Allan Fitzgibbon. He makes a huge swan dive to ground it. It is off a good Hayman kick to the winger. First time the Bears have threatened. It all started with a red zone grubber from Cook, which was scooped up - and produced a long break. Cook chased well and got to the player. But the ensuing play still produced four points. Converted Hayman. The Raiders really deserve to be a lot further in front.

The attack really works like clockwork with Woolford at dummy half. The Raiders know what they're doing and have some good set plays. And just as I write that... Adam Cook produces and error in the red zone. Seven minutes to half time.

35th min ERROR RAIDERS Hopoate drops the bomb. Now a completely incorrect penalty against Hopoate for a strip, and that results in...

TRY BEARS to Ben Talty. Kieran Hayman gets the easy conversion.

Bears 14-12

That penalty was a shocker, the ball simply dropped by the Bears in the tackle. No stripping motion whatsoever.

Incredibly, given the performance of the two teams, the Bears will go to half time, in front.
