NSW coach gives 'passionate' Raider some classic advice for Origin return
NSW coach gives 'passionate' Raider some classic advice for Origin return
NSW Blues coach Michael Maguire has laid out exactly what Hudson Young needs to do in the coming weeks to force his way back into the Origin selection frame after his series debut last year.
"He's a passionate Blue, old Huddo," Maguire said. "As I've said to all the players - build consistency and play really well for your club. Hudson's shown that he can play in that Origin space. It's about playing really good footy for your club now, because it puts you in the best light for being able to come into camp and perform well."

I'm glad that advice was passed on, otherwise Huddo might have thought playing badly would get him there. Glad he has time to re-focus on playing well instead.

It’s now wonder we have fallen off a cliff performance wise given the level of assistant coach we lost.

Videos of Ricky's face when Hudson told him Madge called and told him to play well for the Raiders would be perfect!

When's the last time that we had no Canberra origin players in the men's teams ? Papa had been a mainstay of Qld up until last year. Last year we had Horse and Young. Wighton had been in and out since around 2020.

Re: Canberra Raiders to feature in Origin 2024
Looking around the game there is a real lack of middles - NSW has very few. I would not be completely shocked to see someone like Mariota given an opportunity. I think NSW needs to move past the slowness of Paulo and the inconsistency of the Saifiti brothers. Terrel May, Utoikomano, Lindsay Smith are other young middles emerging in NSW ranks - Ata has as much promise if not more than these guys. It would be a left field selection but he will be in amongst this environment in the coming seasons.
Young is nowhere near it and Horse hasn't had an opportunity. Papa could be included if he opts out of retirement - I think he is playing well enough. The loss of Tino is huge for QLD and Papa could fill that role well if he opts in.

With all due respect, basically no-one would even know who Mariota is outside of Canberra fans. I'm his number 1 fan, but he's nowhere near rep quality yet. Guler, Saulo, and Mooney would be about as much of a chance of getting picked. Which is to say, they wouldn't.
Ata Mariota’s #1 fan. Bless his cotton socks.

Madge knows him though, Finchy. I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a squad with a view of him entering the fray in coming years. Then, a couple injuries all of a sudden it's a chance. I think its a higher chance of Larry getting a date with Mary Samson.

Mariota grew up and played his juniors in NZ and was born in samoa. So probably only QLD eligible.

Terrell May impressed me in the Roosters v Broncos game. Don’t know if it would be too early though. Bench at best. Stefano has played better this year compared to last when he got the call up from Fittler. There’s also talk of Barnett. He played well against us. Hazleton has really played well (don’t know his background) but may be too early.Bluesbrother wrote: ↑May 3, 2024, 11:46 am Looking around the game there is a real lack of middles - NSW has very few. I wouldn’t be picking RCG or Paulo or Safiti brothers - their form has been patchy and Madge has said he will be picking on form.

Leaving out proven danger men like Addo-Carr and picking that toiler Dylan Edwards is exactly what QLD want us to do. Edwards doesn't have the class for rep football.
