Afamasaga is off, perhaps it’s just case of severe cramp. Limped off in a lot of discomfort. Seems to be OK now.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders continued on their winning ways on Sunday, beating the Sharks, 30-16, at Canberra Stadium. The Raiders struck first in the 11th minute with Prinston Esera crossing out wide. They were in again two minutes later, after hooker Owen Pattie put in a long grubber down the middle of the field. He was one of three Raiders chasing, unchallenged, and regathered himself. Four points. A good pass from fullback Keahn Skipps put Tane Kiriona into a gap in the 21st minute - while three minutes later, Esera got his second try of the match after making a great break down the eastern touchline. 20-0 at half time.

The Raiders extended their lead to 26 points, after Keahn Skipps scored three minutes into the second half. The Sharks were able to put on a few tries in the second half - through the Raiders' right edge. Winger Te Wehi Waitere bagged a double. But a try to Raiders five eighth Jaxen Yow in the 56th minute helped to keep the game safe for the home team.

This round: Canberra remains on top of the table, two competition points ahead of the Tigers - and four ahead of the Bulldogs, Dragons and Knights. This week, the Raiders travel to Brookvale Oval for a meeting with the 10th placed Manly Sea Eagles.

The Sea Eagles are coming off a 26-16 loss to the Eels at Brookvale Oval. The Eels led 22-0 at half time - and by 26 points at the 50 minute mark. They Sea Eagles put on three tries in the last 15 minutes - but that was too late, and not enough. Manly has posted recent wins over the Warriors (20-16) and Eels (24-6) - and losses to the Sharks (30-10) and Dragons (30-28)

Team news: Jesse Limon returns from injury on the wing for the Raiders, with Prinston Esera moving to centre. Siamani Leuluai drops out. Jalen Afamasaga and Jaxen Yow will swap jerseys in the halves. There are no changes in the forwards or on the bench. Jake Clydsdale is on a 14 day concussion protocol stand down.

Sea Eagles produce a Flegg win

The Manly Sea Eagles have beaten the Canberra Raiders 24-16 in Round 9 of the Jersey Flegg Cup in a close encounter. Wet conditions at Brookvale Oval saw both teams struggle to hold onto possession, with errors constant throughout the match. Manly edged out their opponents with a double from Nepote Taufa in the first 30 minutes gifting them a narrow 12-10 lead at the break.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday - falling to the Sea Eagles, 24-16, at Brookvale Oval. In a closely fought game, the Raiders drew within two points of the home team, with five minutes remaining - courtesy of a crash ball try to prop Caleb Garvie. The scene was set for a come from behind win for the Green Machine. But a try to lock Caleb Navale in the final minute sealed the match for Manly.

The Sea Eagles led 12-10 at half time, with both teams crossing twice. Raiders hooker Owen Pattie scored the opening try of the match in the 7th minute, a dive over the line from dummy half. Second rower Joe Roddy also bagged a four pointer near the 20 minute mark, with Pattie putting him over with a crash ball. Manly winger Nepote Taufa got a first half double, while a try to centre Alton Naiyep delivered an 18-10 lead to the Sea Eagles with 10 minutes remaining. It was always going to be tough for the Raiders to win from that point.

This round: Canberra remains on top of the table, two competition points ahead of the Bulldogs and Tigers. This week, the Raiders travel to Fiji for a clash with the Kaiviti Silktails. It'll be the first time the Raiders have played at match in the island nation in any grade - with the Silktails entering the Flegg competition for the first time this year. In Fijian, "Kaiviti" simply means "someone from Fiji". Silktails are a Fijian native bird.

The Silktails are based on the west coast of Fiji, not in the Fijian capital, Suva - as Nadi is the home to the main international airport and the centre of Fiji's tourist resorts. With the National Stadium based in Suva, the football fields in the west are more basic.

Prince Charles Park - the venue for this match - has an antiquated grandstand and there is some pressure to upgrade the ground. Nothing has been done to the ground for 30 years. But the Silktails are also playing at Churchill Park, Lautoka, north of Nadi - and it has recently undergone a renovation. It was the venue for the Storm's trial match against the Knights this year and is a home for Fiji's Super Rugby team. It has a 10,000 capacity. The main problem with the ground is that it is a "multi purpose venue" and is also an athletics facility.

The Silktails are having a tough time in this competition so far. They are winless and on an eight game losing streak. They have conceded 100 points in the last two matches - losses to the Eels (42-22) and Bulldogs (60-0). They have also suffered recent losses to the Rabbitohs (22-14), Panthers (52-14) and Storm (36-10). They have conceded 50 or more points three times - and 40 or more four times.

Team news: Jaxen Yow comes in at halfback in place of Ethan Alaia, while Mitchell Prest replaces Caleb Garvie at starting prop. Garvie goes back to the bench. Jayden Ford drops out of the squad, while Jack Anderson replaces Xavier Cacciotti as 18th man.

2024 season record: Raiders 7 and 2 (1st, +108), 3 and 1 away
Kaviti Silktails 0 and 8 (14th, -214)
Form: Raiders WWLWL
Silktails LLLLL
Attacking record: Raiders 27, Silktails 13 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 16, Silktails 40 points conceded per match

Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg to meet Kaiviti Silktails for the first time in Fiji

Raiders assistant coach Darby Medlyn says it will be a special occasion when the Jersey Flegg Green Machine plays for the Noa Nadruku Bowl against the Kaiviti Silktails on Saturday. It’ll be the first time any Raiders team has played in Fiji.

"It’s a great opportunity for us to be able to go over to Fiji, it’s going to be a pretty cool experience. As everyone knows, the Fijian teams are really exciting teams. The style of footy they play is really special. Just to have the opportunity for us to go over there is awesome," Medlyn said.

Big win to the Raiders in this match in Fiji. Good to see the Raiders taking games to Fiji and play for the Noa Nadruku Bowl. Hopefully the Raiders can unearth some emerging Fiji talent. 5 tries in the first half and 6 in the second means this crop of young Raiders does not take their foot off the pedal. Winger Kane Rushton with 4 tries in the match. Center Regan Carr with 2 tries and a goal near the end of the match. I still think of Keahn Skipps as a half back but he must be doing a fine job at FB because he is now regularly selected there.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders are back on the winners list, after producing a 56-8 victory over the Kaiviti Silktails at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Saturday. It was the first time the Raiders have played a match in Fiji in any grade. In a contest for the Noa Nadruku Bowl, the Raiders were the first to score, through centre Mark Tuialii in just the third minute. Winger Kane Rushton, centre Regan Carr and prop Mitchell Prest soon followed - giving the Raiders a 20-0 lead at the 30 minute mark. Back to back tries for the Silktails - from centre Emosi Daubitu and fullback Gabriel Daunivucu - just before half time got the home team back into the contest. They trailed 20-8 at the break.

But it was all the Raiders in the second half. The Raiders ended with a total of 11 tries, Kane Rushton scoring four of them. He got three in a row in the second half. Regan Carr also bagged a double. Sadly for the Silktails, they are still waiting for their first win of the year.

This round: The Green Machine remains on top of the competition ladder. And while they might not be the best defensive team in the league, they are certainly the No. 1 attacking team. After the general bye in Round 11, they will host the Sydney Roosters at Canberra Stadium.

The Roosters are still to play their Round 10 match against the Warriors in Auckland. They've had recent victories over the Storm (38-8) and Eels (36-24) - but posted losses against the Dragons (30-24) and Knights (22-18).

The last time the Raiders beat the Roosters in this grade was back in Week 3 of the 2019 Finals - qualifying for the Grand Final after defeating the Sydney outfit, 22-12. Kai O'Donnell, Joe Roberts, Manase Kaho and Lachlan Lewis were the try scorers for the Green Machine. Sadly, the Raiders went on to lose the premiership decider against the Rabbitohs by just two points.

Team news: To come.
