Our next fullback?

Post by cholztrad »

With the reported news of Milford asking for a release who do you think should be our long term fullback?

Though I love Robbo and what he brings in attack I feel his defensive game is pretty weak.

Can Fergo fill that void? Will you stick with Robbo? Is there a up and comer I don't know about that could make the #1 his own.

I'm pretty devo atm :(

I remember when I was excited to see:
1.Robbo
2.Wighton
3.Croker
4.Fergo
5.Lee

Not all is lost. Although if one of our halves go down we are in trouble...

You haven't read the OP then.

And yes I'm just going off the highlights package. What I did see from the package was nice cut out passes, nice show and go, nice kicks but no magic.

Much stronger organiser than Milford. Milford is a stepper and brilliant individualist, Ahearn is a great ball player, runner.

I guess it's not all about the magic / game breaking ability which is what I was hoping for. Though He does look like one to straighten up the attack which is something we haven't had in fullback for a while.

I hope ahearn steps up as he has really developed big time this year, if ahearn and Cornish can transition up into first grade with anything near what they have shown then ill be very happy.

Still got a fucvk load of family up north now his best mate is going back there, but you have a point that he probz wouldn't **** his family around again and move them back to Brisbane, but his family would probably want to move back to Brisbane... Stranger things have happened

I'm all for promoting our juniors but our spine will look pretty weak with another rookie, particularly if we end up blooding Cornish too.

I'd look to sign Gardner from the sharks who is stuck behind Gordon. Plenty of experience and is very quick.

Dunno, does it matter?

You can't replace talent like Dugan AND Milford in 12 months. It was a fluke that we had Milford waiting in the wings, as good as Ahearn may be he's not Dugan or Milford.

****! To think if Dugan didn't have his twitter outburst the Broncos would have signed him and probably not chasing Milford!

Maybe Edrick as one from left field? Probably doesn't know the role well enough though.

Ahearn is a smart player but I'm not sure about his running game yet. Still he deserves first crack as he has been the best player in the best team in under 20s. He will need a bit more time in Mounties though.

Who cares. Jack Ahearn will get a go, do well for a season, then get plcuked again by another "media darling" club.........

The only way we are going forward will be a "MoneyBall" style of getting wonderers, not egos together and hope it clicks.... or relocate to a more hip location.

Fox were commentating during the Holden cup the juniors we have promoted to FG from U20's , it s an impressive list and they left a few out.

Ahern has really stepped up and become a first class player in U20's , he has a brilliant pass and run into holes. A good organising player.

How that transfers to FG is the unknown , which is the case for all young players. They may handle it staight away , or it could take a year or two or it may never happen.

Our options are skinny atm

We have Milford , Robbo who are 2 FG fullbacks.

It may be a case of recruiting one from somewhere , but Im hoping for this Milford situation to end in our favour

Ahearn by a country mile. I rate that kid. When him and Cornish fire they do some freakish things on the field. Would like to see both of them take the step up and I reckon they would kill it

Ahearn looks more a half to me, great allround passing, kicking and organising, not sure his running game is good enough to be an nrl fullback but i haven't seen a great deal of him tbh?
I'd give croker a crack, good under the high ball, always tries to get on the outside of his man, good pace and would solve the fact that 9 games out of 10 Jack Wighton is being wasted away on the wing

Seriously couldn't care less anymore... The facts are we will not find someone as good as Milford for another 20 years.. Nothing like loosing Dugan and Milford in the one season.. Milford is a way bigger loss than Dugan.. Maybe we should just drop out of the NRL? Everyone that has anything to do with the NRL seems to hate us... **** over it..

That's what I'd go with..
As for the halves, I'm not too worried either.. we have Cornish who'd be too old for the u20's next year and has been playing half his games at Mounties this year already. From what I've seen, Milford might have the x-factor over Cornish, but Cornish can control the game better and can play direct when needed. Ahearn can also play in the halves if it comes to that.
