Homesick Canberra Raiders youngster Anthony Milford eyes Brisbane Broncos move
Homesick Canberra Raiders youngster Anthony Milford eyes Brisbane Broncos move
FAMILY ties could deliver Anthony Milford to the Broncos next season, with Queensland's hottest teenage prospect weighing up his future in Canberra due to homesickness.
It is understood Milford will be a Bronco next year, but the move is contingent upon him activating a get-out clause relating to family illness.
Milford has been yearning for a return to family in Brisbane. Just turned 19, he has been homesick for some time, a feeling of isolation that intensified following his father Halo's heart attack 18 months ago.

Keep dreaming Brisbane..
Avatar Bet - bleedgreen99 - Raiders to make (BG99)/miss(Lucy) the 8. Avatar from last round of regular season 2015 until GF 2016.
Signature Bet - Raider85 - Raiders to get(Lucy)/miss(R85) the wooden spoon. Signature for entire offseason.
Bottle of something to the value of $70 - Matthew Borewood to not see (Lucy)/to see (Piggles) a first grade game in 2015 for the Warriors.
The Name Change Bet - Regarding the three bets above;
I win all three I keep my name.
I win one I become "the Punish"
I lose all I become "Chicken Little"

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
Its funny how this is coming out after our win.
Was he sitting in the dressing shed after the game thinking he was homesick?
How long have they been sitting on this story , 3 -4 weeks , now Brisbane want to punt their halves so they think its a good time to dust the story off

Every man and his dog are being linked to the Broncos because Wallace and Prince are stinking up the joint. I'll believe this when I see it

Is it just me or are the negotiations around our players always extra drawn out and complicated.

At the end of the day, if he genuinely wants to go home he will. Doesn't matter how much cash we offer as the Broncos will have dollars leaking out their backsides.
It'd be a real shame if he left, because it brings us back to square 1 with our spine. Furner will do everything possible to keep him and hopefully his relationships with the boys here will be strong enough to keep him.
Whatever will be will be.

Ahearn is a talent. He isn't at the same level but he is quality.

I think once Papalii stayed with us, Milford was happy to.
Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
No idea what's happening in the background... Each day that goes past that we haven't signed him increases the chance he will go elsewhere.
My gut tells me be could go.... Hope he doesn't.

In the past I'd be devastated, even at rumours, but now I'm used to players switching teams mid year or whenever it suits them so I just don't care anymore.

He seems to be that guy who will do anything to win, I think the 20's would miss him more than Cornish.edwahu wrote:Ahearn is a talent. He isn't at the same level but he is quality.

The Broncos put in an offer to sign Croker, which he knocked back to re-sign with us. They don't always get what they want, but a lot of the talk will certainly revolve around what happens with Smith and Barba.

Keeping Peter Griffin as their coach would be a worse signing.

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
That's a fair bit of speculation there... Bet you a million bucks that doesn't happen. It is understood Milford would play halfback at Brisbane, with either Ben Hunt or possible Bulldogs recruit Ben Barba to wear the No. 6 jumper.
Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
He's signed here until 2014 so long as the clauses aren't in his favour I don't care how homesick he is.
We took the hardline with Williams and we will here

It'd just kill me to lose Anthony Milford to the Canberra Raiders. Just kill me.

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
He has a get out clause in his existing contract linked to family illness. His father had a heart attack not too long ago and is apparently not doing well. Would be hard to enforce any contract with such a clause if that is the reason for him wanting to go home.Pete Cash wrote:He's signed here until 2014 so long as the clauses aren't in his favour I don't care how homesick he is.

Exactly. If he wants/needs to go home he will go next year. Our only hope is, as someone said in another thread, if this article is rubbish, trying to put pressure on Tony.icgreen wrote:He has a get out clause in his existing contract linked to family illness. He did seem pretty elated after the game! Hopefully we keep winning, the boys keep him happy and he stays. 50/50 in my eyes. Maybe 60/40 in our favour.

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
18 months ago is a while back.... Personally, from a legal stand point, I think the opposite. As in you would be hard pressed to use that as an excuse to get out of it..
It's media buzz, means **** all. If this was serious his own agent wouldn't have come out and said the Broncos hadn't even asked him....

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
Interesting that they want him as a halfback. He isn't the best at setting his man up and his passing game isn't great. Not that I don't think he's absurdly talented but for mine he's a fullback.
Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
Not confident at all of keeping him now that his family aren't going to end up moving and also a few other little things I've heard.
After essentially letting Williams go, losing Milford as well would be a complete and utter disaster.

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
if they are thinking barba #6 and Milford #7 I think they will continue to struggle, they are looking at 2 players that play similar styles which I can't see working...
Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
Surely the club would have worked out the milf situation before letting William go?

Re: Homesick Raiders youngster Milford eyes Broncos move
If the early release clause is for family illness, then I must say it's really poor form of the Broncos to try and get him to execute it for their needs.
My concern is that if we manage to retain him, it's going to be on pretty big dollars. It's another situation where we'll be forced to put another very young player on a very big contract i.e Carney and Dugan. If we manage to retain him, we have to do all we can to keep his head right. I mean he doesn't seem like the type but we've been burned a few times before.
