2013 Golden Boogs - Official Nominations - Voting now open
So, it's that time of year again. Golden Boogs time. The members of The Greenhouse have been putting forward their nominations, and based on those tallies, we now have the official nominations for the Golden Boogs Awards, 2013.
For the Thread of the Year, we've also added the top four football discussion threads - they're the issues that have generated the most discussion on The Greenhouse in 2013. As proposed by some posters, we've added a category of "Best regular feature", so as to promote posters producing their own weekly columns/features.
For those who are new to The Greenhouse, the Golden Boogs are the annual forum awards, nominated and voted on by you, the members of The Greenhouse. The awards are named after a certain former Raider, immortalised in the Golden Boogs trophy.
How to vote? We have established a voting poll... and you just have to click here. Nominees will appear in randomised order in the survey and are in random order in this thread.
You will only be able to vote once (and if we see evidence of anyone cheating the system in any way, the awards will be unfortunately cancelled, or at least, relevant nominees suspended, so please don't even try!).
These are the nominations:

Stuat can't win q over q- his posts are bigger than anyone's
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I've been stalking the Betting Thread a lot more than usual lately, and I've just got to say that if Nick and Michael don't win romance of the year, it will be a travesty. No couple on the GH comes close.

That's a tough field for the Matt Elliott Medal..
I'm going to have to cut a preference deal with TR.

I'm long overdue for an award so I encourage all GH members to vote for me. Should I win, I give an iron clad undertaking to stop the boats.
I also vote for Greenbits and T_R for best/sexiest avatar.

You guys need to familiarise yourselves with Dubby's pining for TR. If Dubs wasn't so deeply christian that homosexuality must disgust him, i'd actually be convinced that Dubby actually wants to have intercourse with TR.

I have no idea how I've been nominated in any of those categories. Especially the quality over quantity award. 99% of my posts are complete bollocks and the other 1% is quoting what other people have said.

It's more a matching ink kind of thing, Nick.Nick wrote:You guys need to familiarise yourselves with Dubby's pining for TR. If Dubs wasn't so deeply christian that homosexuality must disgust him, i'd actually be convinced that Dubby actually wants to have intercourse with TR.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Fair assessment. However I'd have to say it's a bit unfair to tar Woodgers, Stuat and Lui_Bon with the same brush, all of whom demonstrate the clear pre-requisite of including some degree of quality in their posts.Northern Raider wrote:you have to remember the bar is not set that high. He should be a lock for Best Football Brain though IMO. S82 spends too much time "debating" with afdfhfjtjktjkt and RedRaider has an unhealthy obsession with Benn Guttriss.

Agree with Stuat for best footy brain. He had serious competition from Matt and RedRaider however those 2 have shot themselves in the foot this year. Undying support for Butts and the Milford > Slater, Foran have severely hindered their chances. The Nickman wrote:As dubby pointed out, Stuat's posts are way too long to qualify for the Quality over Quantity award.

Stuat should pull off a classic Bradbury to take out the award.

Its not about how long each post is, it's the frequency of posts. I could post the bible and still win if it was the only post I made.Northern Raider wrote:Agree with Stuat for best footy brain. Oh come on, the bible is a real page-turner. Love the old testament, couldn’t put it down last night was reading it until 2am. Like that bit in Genesis when God drowns the entire population of the earth except for 1 family. And I also enjoyed Exodus, when God slaughters all Egyptian firstborn children and cattle because their king was stubborn! Love it!

You should do a weekly segment on the Bible starting in Round 1 2014, Begs.
You'd rival the Hooter and Matt's Matchups IMO.

I could, but it would take me about 70 years to highlight all the atrocities and acts of hypocrisy committed by God before I would be done.

Kind of like old school Gus Gould (at Penrith). An absolute bastard, but a winner. The new testament version of Gould (at Channel 9) is nicer but a certified loser. Angry is good.Nick wrote:I can buy old testament God, he's all about the smiting people down for ****.
