How NRL strugglers bounced back fast

How NRL strugglers bounced back fast

Back in 2014, just a couple of seasons ago, the Cronulla Sharks and Canberra Raiders finished last and second last on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder.

By the end of 2016, the Sharks were premiers while the Raiders had finished second in the regular season with the best attacking record in the league. Things can change quickly in the NRL, particularly the fortunes of struggling teams.

Wow. I never actually thought about that. That's quite an incredible turnaround for both clubs when you think about it.

Except the Sharks had the wooden spoon because of their own misadventures with an organised drug cheating program, and got out of it with three week suspensions for the drug cheats.

It is obscene how easily the Sharks got off the whole Peptide thing. I always look back to the season in question - I believe 2012 - and if you notice in both the AFL and NRL the Bombers and Sharks got off to flyers that season. Then what they were using becomes noticed and they both **** the bed and the Sharks won 5 of their last 15 or something and the Bombers missed the 8 all together. Correalation? Essendon copped the full brunt, the Sharks got hit with a feather. And Gallen still acts hard done by.

Watching the Sharks win the Premiership was horrible last year.

Yep, the whole ASADA peptide thing was a joke. However, perhaps the lesson to be learned is that there is a huge risk in declaring innocence and fighting it until everything falls apart ala Essendon.

I'm a bit over the whole thing but I still find it ridiculous that Shayne Flanagan is coaching.

I found that article offensive on so many levels, firstly being put in the same boat as the sharks, they didnt struggle, they cheated and I am not convinced its over!

secondly we have never been a struggling club, to me a struggling club is a club who has to go to the NRL for money , who come in the bottom 4 every year, thats not us.

When we win this year (yes when we win :) ) I dont want it to be the fairy tale! Its the strong of a club working within the rules, working hard, using our medical team properly , looking after the long term well being of our players and just being professional!

Its never a fairy tale when storm win or the broncos!

No, twice it's been imaginary for the Storm.
