The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
As usual in the off season, we're conducting a series of polls to determine The Greenhouse's view on the strongest Canberra Raiders starting line up for the coming year. The team looks very settled, but there's still room for debate in some positions.
Jordan Rapana was one of the wingers of the year in 2016, so his selection is set. However, Edrick Lee had a disrupted season and a finals campaign he'd probably prefer to forget. Is there anyone who can displace him?
Ready, steady, vote!
You have TWO votes in this poll and you can change your vote. If a player you want selected is not in the poll, simply list their name in the thread. If a player is listed, you MUST vote in the poll for your vote to count.

Rapana and Lee, but Edrick needs to lift. He's been a bit lackadaisical.

Re: The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
everyone who thinks Eddy needs to lift, improve, focus etc
is he really that bad or is it like it was with Dane?
is it his physical appearance and facial expressions that make him look worse than he is?
are we going to have the same debate about Taylor because the poor bugger has a really really long torso and curved spine that makes him look uncoordinated??

No, it's that he needs to lift.
His work off our goal line is hit and miss, he needs to be more consistent in his work there
But he's a finisher, that's his job, and at his best he's a very good one
He can put tries on the floor at critical moments in big games like he did last year. Errors in those key moments really hurt us. We need more from Edrick

This is the only spot 1-17 where I'm not 100% sure.
Lee needs to lift. There are people snapping at his heels.

Still dunno how he spilt that one with the line open, was a perfect cutout from JackPigman wrote:No, it's that he needs to lift.

Rapa and Eddy.
I still think this is Eddies to lose.
Ottio is coming off an ACL injury, meaning he needs time to get confident etc. He will have to jump straight back into try scoring too to push for selection.
Cotric is a rookie, and would absolutely have to have a monster pre-season to get a look in early. Also, given he is a centre/ fullback, he would also be out of position. Meaning a very strong case to push him out.
Aiono, I like the cut of his jib, but he is a Bill Tupou with ok hands. In a short spell in FG, he'd be ok, but id rather one of the above guys long term.
Santo, another I like the look of, but midget wingers get picked on. In a short spell in FG, he'd be ok, but id rather one of the above guys long term.

Pretty sure even Eddie doesn't know how.-TW- wrote:Still dunno how he spilt that one with the line open, was a perfect cutout from JackPigman wrote:No, it's that he needs to lift.

Rapana and Aiono for me but it will most likely be Rapana and Lee. Eddie will need to be on his toes though, there are some options in this position, which is a good thing.

That left wing spot is up for grabs. Someone may light it up during 9s, trial game and pinch it from Ed.
I like Ed but he needs to do more, get involved.

The cbd of Melbourne probably heard the word **** loud and clear
Re: The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
It was pretty clear that Eddie was playing with a few niggles (as were a few others) by the end of the season which had him a yard slower than he'd like to be- or where he or we thought he could be or should be. If you watch the replays you see him chased down in some of those games by people he'd normally leave for dead.-TW- wrote:Still dunno how he spilt that one with the line open, was a perfect cutout from JackPigman wrote:No, it's that he needs to lift.

Austin was cooked, Crokes was cooked, BJ was cooked and Eddie was cooked. His timing was out, he couldn't explode or hit top speed. Now he's spent 6 months being knocked a loser and as a scapegoat.
It was his best defensive year ever (misses 1/3 the tackles over game of Rapana for example). He showed some nice hands in passing. Was taken over the sideline about half the # of times of most wingers. A few good games, a few bad ones and a few where his stats are pretty similar to Rapana's but only one guy cops a sledge. We also kicked to him about once all year.
Looking at the alternatives, I want Eddie at his best in that wingers spot.
Re: The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
It wasnt his body that let us down. Its his attitude. Hes never "on" the ball. He'll have it if it comes his way but youll struggle to find a winger that looks like he wants it less

He misses 1/3 of the tackles because he MAKES 1/3 of the tackles Rapana does.
It's easy to go out half the amount of time other wingers do if you go looking for the ball half the time other wingers do.
Brenko Lee is clearly not a winger and was still more potent in attack.

Re: The 2017 Greenhouse Team - Wingers
I've tried not to think about Edrick Lee for the last 4 months. I've backed him time and time again. He is a first grader. He has an upside. But he's got a long way to go to stop being remembered for that clanger.
That being said, I think his only real danger is a youngster, probably Cotric.

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
