Yep, can't watch it now knowing the result.
With referees easing off on the 6again I'm seeing Storm and Roosters really pushing the boundaries in those small grey areas. Holding down in the ruck, slowing things down, stepping off the mark. Those little niggley areas where the clever coaches push the boundaries. I think the referees need to take a tougher approach for a few weeks otherwise we're creeping back to wrestle territory, particularly in the red zone. Mark it down now. If we don't see a crackdown we'll be back where we were 5 years ago, by the end of this season.
Still watching the first game and Harry Grant is essentially the second coming of Cam Smith. He has this incredible spell over the referees. Milks a ruck penalty just after half-time by jumping up to play the ball and essentially pushes himself into the marker and throws the ball onto the ground to milk a penalty.
Then at roughly the 60 minute mark breaks from the scrum early to block the pass. It should be a penalty from directly in front of the posts.

Dogs score from subsequent play. They probably take a two point penalty from in front to take the lead if Grant is penalised. TBF from a scrum in the Dogs red zone Hutchinson is clearly offside, but Storm score a simple 'edge' try to win instead. Storm just doing their usual 'scrape to a win early in the season ' to get the two points, and building as the season progresses. Thats 3 lucky wins though. Not sure they have the forward pack to be a true contender at the backend of the year. Still looking at Panthers and Warriors but all it takes is a few injuries to even the field.

Yes. I fell asleep it was that boring.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate. John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

As far as I'm concerned, it's ruined the weekend. And Christmas.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I’m hoping we will be back where we were 5 years ago, that was 2019 baby and a shot at a GF.
To be fair that does suit our defence and something we did well in 2019.

I think both you and Gerg have a point. Some refs are certainly blowing the 6 agains (especially a cluster of two or 3 within a couple of tackles), but I too have noticed some smart teams really pushing the boundaries in the tackle and around the ruck of late.
The Storm bulldogs game being a perfect example, lots of stepping off the mark before playing the ball and Storm did a lot of wrestling one arm of the ball carrier in the tackle.

Yep. Roosters are starting to slow the ruck down again too. It didn't help having an inexperienced referee in the Storm game last night.
Wow, just turned on the Warriors Manly game, 9 minutes from half-time and Manly lead 16 0.
Didn't expect that.

I wasn’t! Their chief element is surprise. Surprise and fear.

I still can’t get behind golden point for games that aren’t sudden death.

It’s a stupid ‘entertainment’ concept.
Up to ten minutes of trying to get a field goal or a penalty is hardly entertaining.
I could possibly enjoy just extra time, rather than golden point.
