Re: Canberra Raiders miss out on David Fifita

People a just sick of premium free agent players being signed by the Roosters or Brisbane. A draft won't stop that. Sent from my CPH2021 using Tapatalk A draft won't stop that- a draft alone that is- but it does mitigate it to a fair degree. It provides one balancing mechanism. Others would be tran...

Re: 2024 Round 11 v Bulldogs: Teams and Previews

Bulldogs are gonna be a big test next week. Our crash balls aren't going to trouble them too much I have to say. Their defence is pretty impressive. Will need to be able to get some rolls on mid field and hope this can free up Timoko, Kris, Savage, Strange and Weekes to do some damage. Rapana back ...

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

I guess the question for me for any young spine player is whether they'll be superstar, which I'd broadly describe as a top ten player of the game. I'm of the view that a team can and will be a huge premiership force, with 2-4 superstars and the rest more or less honest hard working, solid players....

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

I posted a number of times in the pre-season about going after Angus Crichton, he was getable and on the market. He's turned his form around and back close to his best as predicted. He'll probably stay at the Roosters now. Would have been great for us. Ah well. I may get deleted but there were seri...

To sum it up, Andrew Webster is struggling. How about other highly touted coaches who have come through in the last few seasons? Adam Obrien? Stinking the house down. Todd Payten. Also wafting an abhorrent stench. Jason Demetriou? Jack is playing the best footy of his career under him.? Ciraldo and...

Re: 2024 Round 9 v Sea Eagles: Game Day

Jack could roll a grubber past the dead ball line from halfway. He just isn’t a finesse player. Fog and Strange definitely have the better short kicking games than our previous halves of the last decade. Fog probably has the best long kicking game too. Fog this season was the best I've seen a raide...

Re: 2024 Round 9 v Sea Eagles: Game Day

It was noticeable when Starling and Mooney came on how our defensive line compressed and our line speed improved. Weird game. Didn't look like Manly wanted to win it in the second half. They're getting run down, and then overtaken and DCE and Tommy didn’t even really attempt to do anything about it...

Chevy back to cup would be my go. Without Fog there is a need for some experience in that spine.

There's a very good chance Chevy gets another crack at FG with a Rapana injury or suspension in a month or two anyway, given age and playing style.

It’s going to be pretty bloody important that Strange, Sanders and Chev are learning on the job with a strong pack Tapine may not be a core part of the future raiders team that we’re hoping can win us a comp (he also might be! Probably DL's best defensive game for us with only 2 missed and 1 ineffective tackle. One tackle I recall on Turbo was very good close to our line. But... can he back it up. In Manly's first try DL is the defender ambling across the field when Turbo cuts back inside. If he had shown a little more u...

Calling a spade a spade, I thought we looked very disjointed in attack. I get that weekes had the courage to kick on the second tackle, but other than that I don't recall him creating anything else which suggests to me he will be a consistent first grader. Can’t see us getting within 20 points of the Sea Eagles tonight. And even if we do - we all know it’ll be down to another one of these classic Rick rah-rah ambush response performances rather than anything sustainable. That would have been magic. I was there in late 1991 when Mal scored late and kicked the winner from the sideline to keep us in the top 5. Too many other times at Brookvale were very painful. Was that the one at home vs Doggies when Mal reminded reporters after the match, "It's an 80 minute ga...

There is not one other coach in the NRL who would persist with having two superior (albeit not by much) hookers languishing in reserve grade for such a long period of time. Levi is done. He was done 3 clubs ago. Starling is a great back up 3rd choice hooker who can play a part if need be. And yet h...

Well, there’s certainly been an overreaction in here to what is a pretty understandable team list. Hoppa at fullback, that’s fine. Stewart needs a rest and Rapana’s still injured. They did it in the trials and he played well so it’s not completely out of left field. He may not be exciting and speed...

Hoppa comes in and maybe Elliot and that's it I suspect. Billy was right in that you need to give yourself some latitude moving forward. Hodgo moved on because he was cooked after the injury and we couldn't match the offer. His career afterward showed that was the right call. Which doesn't mean backing Starling was the right call.
