2016 State of Origin

Post by greeneyed »

Early-bird Origin ticket special

Fans will be able to watch Holden State of Origin Games at ANZ Stadium next year for as little as $35.

Tickets will go on sale this week for the two Sydney games - Origin 1 and Origin 3 - which will be held at ANZ Stadium on June 1 and July 13, 2016.

For the first time, a special two game pass will go on sale for both Sydney games for $75 (Club Ticketed Members) and $85 (General Public).

A limited number of $35 single-game tickets will be available for both Club Ticketed Members and the general public.

Club Ticketed Members can purchase individual bronze category tickets for just $45 and family packages for $145.

Bronze category general public tickets will be available for $50 for both ANZ Stadium games, with family packages priced at $155. A family of four could attend both Sydney matches for $260.

"In other words, State of Origin will be affordable for all fans in 2016," NRL Chief Commercial Officer - Interim, Michael Brown said.

"State of Origin is one of the biggest sporting events of the year and we want to ensure fans can attend," he said.

Mr Brown said the ticket prices announced today were "early bird specials" and would increase marginally closer to the Origin dates. He said the early bird deals proved popular for this year's Grand Final.

General public tickets will go on sale on Thursday (November 19).

Mr Brown said a new Origin series attendance was set in 2015.

"We want to take advantage of that momentum and continue to encourage fans to be there for sport's greatest rivalry," he said.

NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley said he would love nothing more than to play in front of a full house in 2016.

"I urge Blues supporters to get in early and get on board with the Blatchys. We want there to be no doubt that this is the home of the Blues and to make the most of the home ground advantage," Daley said.

"Tickets are well-priced this year and will go a long way towards creating a massive sea of blue at the Stadium that will give the team a huge lift when they run out."

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres added: "Next year's State of Origin series promises to be explosive, with the Blues looking to win back the title.

"I encourage all fans to book their tickets today and get to Sydney for this match, which is proudly supported by the NSW Government through our tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW."

ANZ Stadium Managing Director Daryl Kerry said it was great news for fans that tickets for two Origin games at the home of the Blues in 2016 were so affordable.

"Passionate Blues fans have given NSW a distinct edge at home in recent years, with the Blues winning four of the last six Origin games at ANZ Stadium and six of the last eight games when they have hosted Game I of the series," Mr Kerry said.

"Who will ever forget that famous Blues series win at ANZ Stadium in 2014?

"With tickets to the 2016 series representing great value for money, ANZ Stadium will no doubt be a sea of Blue for the two NSW home games in 2016."

Tickets will be available from nrl.com/tickets

Tickets for State of Origin II, which will be played at Suncorp Stadium on June 22, 2016, will go on sale early next year.

2016 State of Origin tickets on for as little as $35 in Sydney

THE NRL is so concerned about attracting near-capacity crowds at two State of Origin matches in Sydney next year that a ticket for one game can be purchased for as little as $35.

Queenslanders found out yesterday by powers of deduction that Brisbane’s only 2016 Origin match will be on June 22, although the NRL formally announced only the Sydney dates of June 1 and July 13.

I know what you said. The impression from your statement I got as if they struggle for a crowd.

They have had 80k + from 2010. In 2010 the had 60k+ which is still bigger than QLD.

Over 80 thousand is a huge crowd. They only need a few thousand more to sell out completely

State of Origin 2016: NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley gives Robbie Farah the green light

LAURIE Daley has no fears of NSW hooker Robbie Farah carrying mental baggage from his ongoing stand-off with Jason Taylor into next year’s NSW Origin camp.

I know Robbie’s training extremely hard and I’m pretty confident that will sort itself out,” Daley said. “He’s an important member of our team and has been over the last couple of years. But that’s for the Wests Tigers to work out that situation.

State of Origin: Maroons unfazed by Blues new $20 million facility

QUEENSLAND Rugby League chairman Peter Betros says the Maroons are unfazed by NSW's latest ploy to win a State of Origin series.

“It’s a great innovation on NSW’s part to be able to have a centre like that based at Homebush but they’re leaving Rugby League Central which is disappointing," Betros said.

“We’re in the middle of setting up a home for rugby league in Brisbane that will include the ARLC and NSW are doing the exact opposite. I find that a bit odd but that’s their decision and nothing to do with me.”

Merrin, Daley praise State of Origin improvements

Reduced ticket prices and a soon-to-be-built centre of excellence have NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley and forward Trent Merrin looking forward to two packed houses at ANZ Stadium next year for the team's home Origin matches as NSW looks to claw the interstate trophy back from Queensland.

With some fans unhappy about the cost of Origin tickets last year, cut-price tickets are already available for the 2016 fixtures and Daley and Merrin each said a full contingent of home fans – led by the Blatchy's Blues supporter group – would flood ANZ Stadium with support for the home team.

Sydney Roosters Michael Jennings' State of Origin future all clear despite guilty plea

Michael Jennings will still be available for NSW selection next year despite being handed a 12-month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to swearing at police and other offensive behaviour in Sydney's west.

"We dealt with him and we fined him at the time," NSWRL's Dave Trodden said. "I don't think any further action is warranted.

"The allegation against Michael which was made at the time - which he denied - didn't proceed to court.

NSW Blues reveal 2016 State of Origin jersey

A NEW jersey for a new era.

There is now a V-shaped chevron across the front and back of the jumper along with white panels down the side, replacing the dark blue panels from this year’s series. The famous sky blue colour remains. The Star has now increased its sponsorship through a new two-year deal and will appear on the back of the jersey. VB will remain on the front and there is also a chevron on the shorts.

Dylan Walker shaping as Blues No.6 Origin bolter

NSW State of Origin coach Laurie Daley says he will be keeping a close eye on Manly recruit Dylan Walker as he shapes as a bolter for the Blues' No.6 jersey.

After formally announcing his signing with the Sea Eagles this week, Walker expressed his desire to fill the Manly five-eighth role vacated by Kieran Foran.

Blues get jump on 2016 Origin campaign

It may be a week before Christmas in 2015 but Blues coach Laurie Daley says preparations are all set for the 2016 State of Origin series, with an emerging Blues camp scheduled and training facilities and structures locked away.

Speaking at The Star casino for the launch of the team's 2016 jersey, Daley wouldn't be drawn into selections – including the possibility, publicly mooted by Phil Gould, of using Manly recruit Dylan Walker at five-eighth.

Maroons coach Kevin Walters says there is ‘a lot of respect’ between him and Blues coach Laurie Daley

THREE decades after they first sized each other up at the Canberra Raiders, Kevin Walters and Laurie Daley will share the State of Origin spotlight this year.

“We had heard about Laurie for his first year at the Raiders in 1987,’’ Ipswich-raised Walters said.

“He was a kid from the bush as well. You could just see he had that little bit of athleticism that I did not have. You could see he was going to get through and be a bloody good player.

Billy Slater still No.1 Maroon: Queensland coach Kevin Walters

Kevin Walters has used his first act as new Queensland Maroons coach to confirm that a fully fit Billy Slater will walk straight into fullback position that he has made his own since the 2009 State of Origin Series.

Walters is presently putting the finishing touches to the Emerging Origin squad that will assemble in Brisbane on January 29 and while there will be plenty of young faces eager to impress, the ageless Slater has nothing left to prove to Walters and the Queensland selectors.

Ofahengaue has had huge raps for years up here coming through the junior grades, his inclusion would be more along the long term plans rather than short term.

New Queensland Origin coach Kevin Walters wields the axe on long-serving Maroons staff

QUEENSLAND’S new era under Kevin Walters has begun with a shock culling of long-serving off-field staff, with four Maroons officials boasting more than 50 years of combined Origin experience given the bullet this week.

Coaching assistants Jason Hetherington and Michael Hagan, physiotherapist Scott Thornton and doctor Roy Saunders have been told they will not be involved with the team this year.

NSW coach Laurie Daley refuses to call time on Paul Gallen’s Origin career, admitting the current skipper will wear blue again in 2016 if he is fit and in form.

Gallen’s future at Origin level was questioned last season when Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan publicly stated it was the club’s wish for the veteran forward to stand down from representative football.

Sims brands brother an idiot for Queensland devotion

Ashton Sims says his NSW-born and bred sibling Korbin is an “absolute idiot” for wanting to play for Queensland.

The NRL front-rower, like older brothers Ashton and Tariq, was born and raised in the NSW South Coast town of Gerringong and played junior football for the Gerringong Lions and Wests Panthers, but moved north at 16 when he was signed by the Brisbane Broncos.
