McCrone ready for every Dragons opportunity
After an understated but vital role in his side's upset win over South Sydney on Sunday, Dragons utility Josh McCrone says he's happy to fill whatever role presents itself in Paul McGregor's first grade side – even if it's filling water bottles.
The former Raider was told on Thursday to start preparing himself for the possibility first-choice halfback Benji Marshall wouldn't recover from a hamstring strain in time to face the Rabbitohs, and he responded with a composed 80 minutes in which he and senior half Gareth Widdop kicked the Bunnies out of the game.

St George Illawarra Dragons Benji Marshall’s NRL career faces uncertain future
ST GEORGE Illawarra star Benji Marshall faces a fight to continue his NRL career beyond this season with several clubs, including Cronulla, knocking back an approach from his management.
“We’re not going there (Benji) and we’ve moved well and truly on from needing any halves,” Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said.
“We’ve signed Townsend and Maloney, so I’m not looking into that. I can also put Bird in the halves and we’ve got young ones coming through as well, so we are comfortable with where we are in the halves.”

St George Illawarra Dragons coach Paul McGregor says team must start scoring or ‘we will look at personnel’
PERFORM or perish. That is the message Dragons coach Paul McGregor has issued his struggling players, whose positions in the side are on the chopping block.
Following their 36-0 loss at the hands of North Queensland, McGregor said it was time for players to hold themsleves to account and if they didn’t they would be replaced.
The Dragons have won two games from five matches this season but have scored just 40 points in 400 minutes of rugby league. They are barely scoring a try per game this season.

Gareth Widdop and Benji Marshall not to blame for St George Illawarra's woes
Big-name halves Gareth Widdop and Benji Marshall have copped most of the flak but Dragons assistant coach Dean Young says the entire roster needs to take responsibility for back-to-back losses.
"It is unfair but it's always going to be unfair," Young said.
"When you wear the 1, 6, 7 or 9 on your back, the fans and people in the public hold you responsible. We don't hold them responsible, we hold the whole team accountable. We're in this together and we're going to get out of this together. We're not putting the pressure on them by any means.

WIN owner Bruce Gordon buys 50 per cent stake in St George Illawarra Dragons
The NRL's two remaining joint venture clubs will have phantom owners by the end of the month, with billionaire Bruce Gordon taking 50 per cent in St George Illawarra and the Magpies moving to 75 per cent equity in Wests Tigers, leaving the Tigers with a name but no equity in the franchise.
The Steelers, who joined the then NSWRL in 1982 and merged with the Dragons at the end of the Super League war, will also have no equity in St George Illawarra – Gordon holding 50 per cent and the Kogarah-based Dragons retaining 50 per cent – but Illawarra will have representation on the board.

St George Illawarra Dragons reach out to Roosters' Jackson Hastings as Luke Keary on brink of switch
St George Illawarra is likely to up the ante in a bid to bring Jackson Hastings back to the joint venture with prime South Sydney target Luke Keary on the brink of sealing a switch to crosstown rivals the Sydney Roosters.
Hastings, who three years ago was the subject of a bitter tug of war between the Dragons, the club he starred for in the National Youth Competition, and his father Kevin's club the Roosters, is likely to be the big loser out of Keary's defection.

Good to be out on the turps the night before a game. Was Duges there?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Re: St George Illawarra Dragons 2016
I'd say the dragons would take the oppurtunity to punt him if he's found guilty, would be on reasonable coin but has been rubbish this year and they look to have other centre options
Re: St George Illawarra Dragons 2016
Lafai is struggling because that team has no **** idea how to attack. When he gets decent ball (like he did the other day), he's a really good young centre. They'd be mad to let him go unless they have too, anyone reasonable coach would have him as a focal point of their attack

Re: St George Illawarra Dragons 2016
He's looked absolute trash this year, and wasn't much better last year hence he got the boot from the dogs, If they are planning on using Dugan as a centre long term(not that I would be) then I'd punt him as Euan Aitken is clearly there best centrePigman wrote:Lafai is struggling because that team has no **** idea how to attack.
