What a ridiculous discussion to have. Who's the NSW hooker if your first three choices aren't available??

1) Farah
2) Ennis
3) Nathan Peats
Probably Lichaa. Other choices are Isaac De Gois, Mitch Rein, Mitchell Aubusson and Josh McCrone

Me too. Hopefully he plays an uninterrupted season next year. The Nickman wrote:I can't be happy about Billy Slater being injured. Although I'd prefer Inglis at fullback for the Maroons (and have for about four years now), he seems like a genuinely good bloke and I do feel a bit sorry for him that his career seemingly will end this way.
Boyd is solid and would do the job well.

Re: Melbourne Storm 2016
Like I said, Darius Boyd is a pretty solid third-choice fullback option to have. He's no Greg Inglis or Billy Slater, but then again neither is any of the NSW options.

My argument was not centred around whose side is better and who will be NSW 1,2 and 3rd choice hooker though, was it?!The Nickman wrote:What a ridiculous discussion to have. Who's the NSW hooker if your first three choices aren't available??
I was commenting on Slaters injury and how his injury, coupled with Oates, Hunt, Milford, Holmes, Munster, Napa, Edrick Lee and to a lesser extent Gresvmuhl and Wallace being out would test QLDs depth.
But apparently Boyd can cover FB, so its all good.

Has Boyd ever been at fullback at that level or has he just racked up the most tries ever by play outside Inglis on the wing?

None of the guys you listed would play fullback ahead of Darius Boyd for Queensland this year anyway!!

I thought he might be done after last yrs injury, so I think this one might just be it. At least Storm have Munster, who is really 'hitting the ground running' in his stead.Green_Hammock wrote:Me too. Given Slaters injuries and lack of pace in the last couple of seasons, GI has been the better option.

I agree Matt, I think GI has been a better option for a while now, but Queensland keeps selecting him out of loyalty and probably would've this year too. It's a real shame for the guy, but his injury is a blessing in disguise for the Maroons, in my opinion.

I disagree, and have done for years. What Inglis brings at fullback can't be replicated by being pigeon-holed on one side of the field.Matt wrote:Its a blessing at FB, but a curse at centre or wing. 2 class players in 2 positions is better than 1 class and a GagaiThe Nickman wrote:I agree Matt, I think GI has been a better option for a while now, but Queensland keeps selecting him out of loyalty and probably would've this year too. Greg Inglis is very lazy.

When is Slater contracted to? I wouldn't like to be paying a player $500K+ two years in a row to be injured all season, I don't like his chances of being re signed.

Melbourne Storm keep moving forward after Billy Slater’s season-ending injury
MELBOURNE Storm forward Tohu Harris says his side has moved on quickly despite being upset at the loss of star Billy Slater for the season.
“Just seeing how hard he has worked (over the pre-season) and how good he was looking, it is hard to see,” Harris said.
“First and foremost he is a good person and you don’t like seeing those sort of things happen to good people.

Storm fullback Cameron Munster bounces back from controversial James Gavet tackle
MELBOURNE Storm fullback Cameron Munster has not suffered any lasting effects from the controversial tackle that has divided the rugby league community.
Gavet’s chip kick was caught by Munster and the Warriors big man proceeded to dive hard and low at the young gun’s legs in a one-on-one tackle. The incident was placed on report, but Gavet was not charged by the Match Review Committee on Monday.
While the tackle was legal, many felt it was against the spirit of the game. It could have caused serious injury, but thankfully Munster played out the game and pulled up well on Monday.

Gavet did nothing wrong, was just awkward looking. Dived and hit him high in the thighs.

Melbourne Storm sign former Hawthorn Hawks rookie Shem Tatupu
There is no timeline, no expectations and no precedent – Melbourne Storm admit turning former Hawthorn international rookie Shem Tatupu into an NRL player is a new frontier in player development.
The Storm announced on Wednesday they had signed the 20-year-old New Zealand national to a two-year deal with a club option of a third year.
Tatupu left the Hawks earlier this month to pursue a career outside the AFL and his signing won't be included on the Storm's main list for the first year as he has crossed over from another football code.

Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith says NRL referees not stopping marker interference
Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith says NRL referees aren't living up to their preseason plans to crack down on infringements from defensive markers.
A frustrated Smith is sick of interference from opposition markers who are moving out from behind the tackled player and preventing Smith from making clean passes or running with the ball.
Smith spoke out about his problems following the Storm's 18-14 win over Newcastle Knights at AAMI Park on Saturday.

Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith hits out at five day turnarounds
Storm captain Cameron Smith has launched a stinging attack on the NRL schedule.
"It's tough. We've been saying it for a long time now, and it's taken a couple of Sydney teams to get a rough trot for people to stand up and take notice," Smith said after Melbourne's 18-14 win.
"Last year we finished with two five-day turnarounds in a row leading into a finals series, that's just ridiculous."
"You had two teams tonight playing on five-day turnarounds against each other, and they came from New Zealand, they stayed in Melbourne all week and haven't been home."

TBH I'm more confident about this week than next week because of the 5 day turnaround.
Pretty sure Storm are the first team this year to win from a 5 day turnaround against a team with a longer turnaround.

Melbourne Storm winger Young Tonumaipea seeking less stress, more consistency
Much like his Melbourne Storm team, Young Tonumaipea is taking a long view to his 2016 season. The 23-year-old Victorian-raised winger made his way into the Storm side for parts of the 2014 and `15 seasons but both times his form or inexperience saw him dropped.
"I'm still holding on," Tonumaipea said with a smile. "This my third year starting but I haven't finished the whole season in the last two years so I'm really trying to be consistent with my footy and do my role well."

Will Chambers out for three months in big blow for Melbourne Storm and Queensland
Melbourne, Queensland and Australia are on the hunt for a new centre after Will Chambers was sidelined for three months with a fractured foot on Wednesday.
"It wasn't until his foot swelled overnight after the game that we thought something more serious had happened," Storm football director Frank Ponissi said.
"We are extremely disappointed to lose Will. He's an important part of our team and has been a consistent part of our line-up for the last three seasons, resulting in well-deserved selection in the Queensland State of Origin and Australian Kangaroos sides."
