Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy returns from American sporting fact-finding mission

WHEN it comes to training, the latest technology, sports medicine and recruiting — Craig Bellamy wants to be the best.

That’s why for the fourth time in his 13 years as coach of Melbourne, the 56-year-old journeyed to the United States to learn about the latest skills and inside information from the top NFL and NBA organisations.

With Storm football manager Frank Ponissi in toe, the duo spent almost two weeks exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge.

I can't see NBA teams being helpful. The NBA is just way too differently set up compared to the NRL.

Melbourne Storm to make most of home start

MELBOURNE Storm will have the city to themselves in early March with back-to-back NRL home games at AAMI Park before the start of the AFL season.

Storm will open the 2016 season with home match against the Dragons in Round 1 on Monday, March 7.

They will be back at AAMI Park to face Gold Coast six days later on Sunday, March 13, just under a fortnight before the AFL season-opener.

Melbourne Storm home game move to Suncorp in 2016 may start trend

Melbourne Storm fans may lose a home game to Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium double-header for the next three seasons

The Storm and Cowboys game will be paired with Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles game in a Brisbane double-header which the NRL and Tourism Queensland hope will draw a capacity 52,000 crowd on May 14.

The Storm have a deal with the stadium and Tourism Queensland that sends the Cowboys home game north in 2016 and has an option to send an unspecified home game to Suncorp in 2017 and 2018 if the event is a success as expected.

That makes a lot of sense from an NRL business prospective. If the AFL has no games for the first two weeks, then the Storm should absolutely get two home games

Well done NRL

Melbourne Storm: Cameron Munster still developing, says Billy Slater

Melbourne fullback Billy Slater says his outstanding young deputy Cameron Munster has developed even more in the pre-season, but won't necessarily end up at five-eighth next season.

Sidelined for most of 2015 by a shoulder injury, Australian and Queensland stalwart Slater played only seven games, by far the lowest tally in his 13 seasons of senior football.

Melbourne Storm: Cameron Munster a 10-year prospect: Billy Slater

A rejuvenated Billy Slater has labelled Storm teammate Cameron Munster a 10-year prospect at the Melbourne club, following his breakout 2015 season.

"Cameron will definitely find a place in our 17 somewhere. He's a great player for our team – not just at the moment but going forward over the next 10 years. He's really developing into something special," Slater said.

That title implies that he won't be in his prime until 2026. That's not what the article says but the title says something else.

Billy Slater says Cooper Cronk no certainty to stay at Melbourne Storm beyond 2016

BILLY Slater has conceded long-time teammate Cooper Cronk could be on the verge of his final NRL pre-season at Melbourne Storm.

The Queensland and Australia halfback is off-contract at the end of 2016, and Slater has admitted `the big three’ of himself, Cronk and Cameron Smith could finally be broken up after 12 years together.

Melbourne Storm: Koroibete leads male advocacy initiative to help prevent domestic violence

Melbourne Storm winger Marika Koroibete has completed a two-day trip as part of a joint male advocacy initiative with the Fiji National Rugby League, Australian National Rugby League, Australian Federal Government and Fiji Women's Crisis Centre.

Through the male advocacy initiative, NRL and FNRL staff will complete FWCC advocacy training, with the aim of training and engaging male advocates in 52 rugby league clubs across Fiji.

The program has a focus on gender-based violence, with the goal of building up male advocates across the clubs to provide safer environments for women and children in homes and communities.

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy to consider retirement at end 2016

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy says he will make a decision on his future after this summer's NRL pre-season.

The 56-year-old is off contract at the end of 2016, however he has until May to activate an extension clause in his contract which would keep him at the Storm until the end of 2018.

"I just want to see how I get through this pre-season and see how I am feeling," Bellamy said.

Did anyone else the NRL Season Review on Fox last night. It sure was proof Braith Anasta has no future as a talking head.

I wonder how the Storm and their fans, and especially their sponsors, feel about him referring to their ground as "A***, er AAMI Stadium..."

No, it wasn't my imagination either. His only excuse was they were talking about "the bottom of the eight".

Billy Slater on track for Round 1 return but aiming for Auckland Nines

MELBOURNE Storm superstar Billy Slater is on track for Round 1 with optimism growing he will make his long-awaited return at next month’s NRL Auckland Nines pre-season tournament.

The Queenslander has not played since Game 2 of last year’s State-of-Origin series at the MCG with shoulder surgery wrecking his 2015 campaign.

But the 32-year-old, who last year re-signed for a further two seasons, is training strongly and well on the way to re-establishing himself as the game’s premier fullback.

Melbourne Storm boosted as Cameron Smith gets early start to preseason training

Cameron Smith could not be better placed for 2016 after his earliest start to a Melbourne Storm pre-season in almost a decade.

No end-of-season representative duties and a clean bill of health meant Smith returned to the NRL club on December 7. It is the first time the Storm skipper has been back before Christmas since 2007.

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy implores Cronk to re-sign

While Craig Bellamy's future at Melbourne is uncertain, he's sure the Storm is where veteran halfback Cooper Cronk should finish his career.

Bellamy is off-contract but has a two-year extension clause while Cronk has been linked with a move to a Sydney NRL club to be closer to his girlfriend.

"I'm not quite sure exactly where it's at but certainly in the next couple of weeks a decision will be made and obviously we're all really, really keen for Cooper to stay," Bellamy said.

Cronk stands on the verge of his final major contract decision, with the 32-year-old in the midst of deciding where his journey in the NRL will end after spending more than a decade at the Storm.
