Dugan isn't a centre nor a winger... he's a fullback.. a good fullback... but he's just not currently the best fullback in NSW
Yeah I see your point. Who to pick though? Not much depth in NSW at the moment.

He was outstanding.
Gillett was solid. Paps was better than him.

Boyd clearly best IMO
Hate to say it, but I think you're right. Probably the best game I've seen Boyd play

I'll stick with Gillet. In a defensive game he was very good.

Papa was best interchange player from either team. I'd love to see him start but with that performance off the bench I can't see it happening.

Gillett was solid but never stood out. Since when does solid get MOM in origin. Such an average game.

I think Morris with a proper preparation would be better off.... I think his head wasnt entirely in it after being forced to go to camp as a shadow player, dismissed and then brought back in the last minute.

Fergo needs a dressing down.. I think he's still one of NSW's best outside backs, but he's gotta work better with the players around him... I blame the miscommunications between him and Moylan solely on him.

What's that based on?

2 grubbers?
I thought Reynolds was good - some great kicks mixed in with some ordinary ones but still a better option than anyone else in NSW at the moment. His worst blue was missing the conversion, though.
It won't happen, but I would like to see the selectors bite the bullet and retire Gallen and Bird after tonight's game. Ten years of failure is surely enough.
I'd bring in Boyd for Gallen, Cartwright (if fit) or Merrin for Bird and I reckon Tyrone Peachey has No. 14 impact player written all over him
Greg Bird was NSW's best player. Just about undoubtedly IMO.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Hmmm Papa was good, but I think Maguire was a tad better.

I thought Gillet was ineffective in attack, but rack up over 30 tackles

NSW lost in part because they chose to play with 16. A fit Austin on the bench, or Jack Bird off the bench might have broken them open. Instead we had a bloke who's lucky to be in the NRL at all, and a coach withour a clue how to use him. Walker is seriously the most useless selection in Origin history.
There's more chance of Newcastle winning the comp than of NSW squaring the series in Brisbane. Qld will lift, if their attack clicks at all it'll be a bloodbath.
We're back where we were in 2010: needing a Qld 3-0 win to force changes at the top.

Hard markers if Gillett was only solid.

Hit hard and hit often. Played 80 and make some important meters too.
Haven't seen the stats but be surprised if anyone but Smith made more tackles.
Gillett more one on one.

Having said that Boyd was very good.

Was just saying something similar to a mate.. I quite enjoyed that game... I wasnt too invested on who wins, but was a great game to watch since both teams defended well, momentum swung back and forth..
it was an evenly contested match
I enjoyed the 2nd half, as you say the momentum shifted back and forth. I enjoyed watching how individual efforts led to this, such as an early kick by NSW to turn QLD around and pin us inside the half or Papa being one of the first forwards back to take a hitup after the kick, despite being near the end of his stint etc.

Matt Gillett is the Official Man of the Match.

And now Larie Daley says he will officially request a change of referees in Origin II.

That's all we have for tonight, thanks for all the feedback, which is at the usual Origin levels!

We will be back on Friday night for Canberra Raiders V Manly Sea Eagles! We hope for just as much feedback on our calls on Friday!

If Dugan's still out then I don't see much to be gained by messing with the backline for Game 2. The halves were better than anything else on offer and, if nothing else, Morris did a good job on GI. Mansour was good, Jennings didn't get much space and Fergo and Moylan will be better next time round.
Moylan needed to get the ball more in the last 20 when NSW were attacking the line. He offers a lot more in attack than the "five up for a bomb to the corner" that NSW produced tonight.
Still think Bird, Gallen and Walker should go

Agree with the three out but I'd add Farah and Ferguson.
Though we know Gallen wouldn't be dumped.

Surely he is not the best winger NSW have. I know he play for AUS but he is badly out of sorts.

Not sure it was was mentioned anywhere but Papalii made the most metres per run of any forward out there so great game Papa! BTW I couldn't really see what happened at the end of the first half but did Gallen knee Papalii while he was on the ground?

Forward pass. Not a shocking one but still it was a tad. Bad defence made the try not the pass though.

Just listening to the post match interviews and all the spastic journos care about is goading the coaches and captains into comments about the referees. Both coaches just gave them exactly what they wanted goddamn it so the next week is going to all be about refereeing clangers, when collectively, they all did a pretty good job.

First up, congratulations to Qld. A penalty goal in it. I have to say, at Origin level - a very soft penalty at that. Papa continued the good 2016 form. Congratulations to him.

NSW though, after picking a big pack and having a wet track, didn't run onto the ball. Fifita's first run came from deep and made ground. The rest of the time he stood in the line and either tried to accelerate or offload. Stand deep, run straight and use your size when you have the ball. Wear out the opposition. Why on Earth kick early so often?? Not making Qld work defensively doing that.

Reynolds in the halves, I still think NSW picked the wrong Reynolds. His kicking deteriorated as the match wore on. In the second half he either didn't find grass or attacking kicks went too deep.

I could not fathom the selection of Dylan Walker in the side - I still can't. I thought Moylan in his first game of Origin went ok. Mis-communication with Fergo aside, he was fine imo.

Loz, if you pick a big aggressive pack again, please have them play like it. Flat attacking lines died with Kimmorley - thank goodness. Stand deep and have a dig should be the message to our forwards when we have the ball.
