Re: Newcastle Knights 2022
Again another team we're competing with for a bottom 8 finish.
Aside from Ponga that's a ordinary team.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I’ve put a line through the knights. With Pearce and Watson leaving and now Brailey out for the season I think they will really struggle.

Really? He's had a terrible run with injuries. They do have a good forward pack, though getting a bit old and Ponga if he decides to show up... but even before the loss of Brailey I didn't expect them to make the 8. Not sold on the coach.RTW wrote:I’ve put a line through the knights. With Pearce and Watson leaving and now Brailey out for the season I think they will really struggle.

Re: Newcastle Knights 2022
Yeah, I had them slipping out as well but this has just confirmed it for me.
They are now totally lacking any experience in the spine
Clifford 55 games
Clune 25 games
Randall 12 games
Even Ponga has only played 83 games. A really poor season could see Ponga walk out the door as well.

Kalyn Ponga re-signs with Newcastle Knights on five year deal
Newcastle Knights Captain Kalyn Ponga has signed a new five-year contract, securing his future with the Club until at least the end of 2027. Ponga expressed his excitement with the news and the certainty this new five-year contract delivers.
“I would like to thank everyone who has helped throughout this process,” Ponga said.
“I’m grateful for the huge amount of time and hard work it has taken to get this new five-year deal completed, especially my family and key people from the club.

Good player, but not worth $1 million a season. You pay something for his father to go back to Townsville though, by the sounds.
Re: Newcastle Knights 2022
pea heart who is the first in the team to drop his head and give it up when the team is down
And that's in the games he actually shows up ready to play, which is at best 50%
The flattest of flat track bullies. Maybe sometime in the next 5 years he'll find the motivation to deliver on his considerable talent week in and week out... i'd wouldn't bet on it though.

Not sure I understand the Ponga hate. The signing of him was the catalyst for lifting that club out of the doldrums.

Re: Newcastle Knights 2022
Watch him play every week and try and tell me with a straight face the he puts in the way you'd want from a 1m a year player.
As said, when the knights are getting beat, his head is the first to go down, he's the first guy who throws in the towel... and that's even in the games he shows up ready to be at his best, which is at 50% at most.
I said the other day, Jack Wighton might be a dumb **** and do some dumb ****, but you'd never walk away from a game thinking he didnt try or that he doesnt give a ****. Go and look at knights game day threads, even his own fans question his heart and whether he really puts in at club level.

They had nowhere to go but up from the situation Tinkler left them in. It wasn't all Ponga that lifted them. They also added a few Origin players like Klemmer, Pearce and Frizell. Knights had a squad that was very capable of being a top 8 team. Some even thought top 4. Never really became contenders though. Still in the same situation.the bone wrote: ↑April 21, 2022, 9:58 pm3 wooden spoons to top 8 is some pretty significant improvementNorthern Raider wrote: ↑April 21, 2022, 2:55 pmLooking at that he's lifted them to dizzying levels of mediocrity

Re: Newcastle Knights 2022
Ponga was the first big signing though that gave hope to other free agents who were looking for more than just a pension. Yeah he didn’t single handedly turn them around, but he was the biggest piece in lifting them from a laughing stock to a middle of the road team. In this era of haves and have nots, the knights are never going to be true contenders (outside of an aberration of a season) unless they luck into a Joey or Thurston type player. The Knights fans should be grateful as hell to what he’s done for the Knights, and they would be insane to let him go without a ready made replacement.Northern Raider wrote: ↑April 22, 2022, 7:08 amThey had nowhere to go but up from the situation Tinkler left them in. This is the point. It seems like mediocrity is an acceptable outcome. Raiders fans can all relate to that. Maybe Sticky has over achieved during his tenure.the bone wrote: ↑April 22, 2022, 8:08 amPonga was the first big signing though that gave hope to other free agents who were looking for more than just a pension. BREAKING: Knights launch investigation after Ponga kicked out of toilet cubicle
The Knights have launched an investigation after footage emerged of star fullback Kalyn Ponga and utility Kurt Mann being escorted out of a toilet cubicle. The pair — fully clothed — leave without fuss.
Ponga, the club was told, was sick in the toilets and Kurt Mann accompanied him to make sure he was okay. The players, it is understood, told the club the cubicle door was open at all times.
