Squad Game: Rabbitohs 2022 roster changes and best 17

The departure of captain and halfback Adam Reynolds will leave a gaping hole for new coach Jason Demetriou while Origin star Dane Gagai's experience and finishing skills will be sorely missed in the backline.

Possible best 17
1. Latrell Mitchell, 2. Alex Johnston, 3. Campbell Graham, 4. Isaiah Tass, 5. Jaxson Paulo, 6. Cody Walker, 7. Blake Taaffe, 8. Tom Burgess, 9. Damien Cook, 10. Tevita Tatola, 11. Jacob Host, 12. Keaon Koloamatangi, 13. Cameron Murray, 14. Jai Arrow, 15. Mark Nicholls, 16. Liam Knight, 17. Siliva Havili/Peter Mamouzelos

Su'a and Gagai are big losses for them. As is Bennett. He was always able to get a 'no-name' forward pack playing consistently to their ceiling. Will be an interesting season for them.

Whilst they may miss them in the short term you can understand why they didn’t keep them. Gagai isn’t getting any younger and wanted a payday in what is fast becoming the least important position on the field. They have some youngsters with plenty of talent coming through who will do an adequate job.

Su’a they got on the cheap after he didn’t live up to expectations at the Broncos. Bennet appeared to get the best out of him at times but even he struggled with consistency. His price would have gone through the roof but I’m not sure you get a good return on the investment.

Tough decisions but I believe the right ones unlike our club with Croker and Whitehead.

Oh yeah, he's gone to the **** Broncos so he's already dead to me.

He will be a big loss. He isn't a creative half, moreso a good game manager and very good kicker. Hard to replace that skillset.

Reynolds isn’t a top tier half of a Cronk or Thurston, but he’s certainly in that bracket of extremely influential half at the NRL level.

What Reynolds provided for the Bunnies was control and direction. Allowed Walker to play with freedom. How they go without him is the big query.

When we were looking for a half I was dreaming about getting AReynolds.

He’s exactly what we need.

I’ll back the Fog to death but hey there was Reyno available and I believe he didn’t even cross the radar.

South Sydney Rabbitohs re-sign star duo Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker

After months of patient yet productive negotiations, South Sydney will finally announce the retention of star players Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker on Wednesday. ‘I am clean and sober’: Sam Burgess’ denial after allegedly failing roadside drug test

Retired NRL star Sam Burgess has strongly denied allegations he was caught driving under the influence of cocaine, after being pulled over by police this week.

More than a year after he was spared a conviction for driving with an illicit substance in his system (namely cocaine), reports emerged on Thursday that the 34-year-old failed a roadside drug test when stopped by police in Kingsford on Wednesday. His driver’s licence is currently also suspended.

It's interesting that he's pulling the whole "I passed a urine test" as some sort of proof he didn't take drugs. He returned 'clean' urine tests last time he got charged for driving with cocaine in his system, and plead guilty. On that occasion he also did hair follicle tests, which show up trace amounts which don't show up in urine tests. I note he hasn't done a hair follicle test this time around, just the urine test which he knows he can pass.

"He said his client had participated in a hair test and provided clean urine tests before and after the charges in an effort to prove the drug-taking was not a matter of systemic conduct.

“There has also been a number of media reports that he’s been under the influence, which is not true, only trace amounts were found,” Wrench said in court."
