Canberra Raiders snare more Queensland schoolboy stars

The Canberra Raiders have swooped to snare more Queensland schoolboy stars, including Teapo Stoltman, who scored four tries in Marsden's win over Keebra Park, and stylish Wavell centre Prinston Esera.

The Raiders are keen to sign Rockhampton's Cathedral College and Central Capras discovery Elekana Suavai. Canberra have also signed Suavai’s team mates Tom Powell, a strong defensive middle forward, and the versatile Tyler Conroy who plays five-eighth and edge backrow in the 2021 Payne Cup.

We knew about Prinston Esera, Caleb's brother, but news on all the rest.

Welcome to the Raiders young men. Always good to build depth within our club but from the descriptions there are no half backs amongst this group. Hopefully the Raiders talent spotters are already in deep discussion with some No. 7's.

Mackay twins Harry, Henry Thorpe in Raiders program

The Raiders have signed four Queensland schoolboy teammates on developmental programs with the under-17 players still completing their schooling in Mackay before potentially moving to Canberra. St Patrick’s College players Brady Hazledine and Levi Love, as well as twins Harry and Henry Thorpe, hope to reach the NRL through Canberra’s programs.

“I had some interest from the Cowboys but being so close to Harry it didn’t work out, but Canberra were keen to sign us both,” Henry said.

Henry is a hooker, Harry is a five eighth, all are signed for 2022, with options in the club's favour.

Who identified the talent in QLD? Is it Mullholand or do we employ someone like we did in the past ( if I remember correctly Mark Tookey used to be employed by us)

I’m happy to be corrected… but my understanding is it Peter Mulholland and co. Have run into families of several younger players out at junior games and at Canberra Stadium, it’s Pete they’re talking about. He seems to have travelled far and wide, going to junior carnivals and more.

Levi Love, Brady Hazledine‘s Canberra Raiders NRL academy program win revealed

Brady Hazledine and Levi Love hope to continue their league paths together after finishing at St Patrick’s College, Mackay. They've signed with the Canberra Raiders in the NRL, despite having a year of schooling left. Hazledine, who has been a member of the academy program since 2019, had Love, Harry and Henry Thorpe join him in Canberra during the 2021 season.

“I’ve been at the club for three years now, when I went down to the club initially I could tell it was definitely a family-based club,” Hazledine said.

Canberra Raiders bolster hooker stocks with Stanley Iongi signing

With question marks over the Raiders' two first-choice hookers, Josh Hodgson and Tom Starling, the club has pounced on former New Zealand under 16 hooker Stanley Iongi. Now 19, Iongi actually signed with Melbourne feeder club Brisbane Tigers late last year. But when he was approached by the Raiders last week, Iongi's manager Dixon McIver asked the Tigers for a release. Iongi will start the new season in the SG Ball.
