I'm kind of happy for the area to be getting such big events. I bet the place has a bit of a buzz about it.
I like the town, I feel it's inevitable I'll make my way there some point in my life when I'm done with Sydney.
Newcastle stinks, too many Knights fans.
Jets too. Went to a few Wanderers / Jets games, and we'd get coins pelted at us!

I prefer Newcastle to Wollongong. Our company has offices in Newcastle and Charlestown, so I feel the move eventually will be to Central Coast / Port Stephens areas and work from there

Thanks. You're probably right, but I don't think all of it was necessarily to do with an unhappy marriage either - seemed she had deeper unresolved issues. I got sucked in though and it wasn't fun. Lots of wounded people in the dating world sadly. Yep slowly getting better. Took a few months. Was waking up with panic attacks for awhile there.
I've been married 18yrs, my opinion is probably terrible but my 2 best mates are mid divorce and I see a bit of what them and their ex's have been up to. It's not great viewing

Up to? What do you mean?

I'm not disagreeing. I just think that sort of erratic behaviour and some of the stuff she told me about her unstable childhood played a part too. People need to sort their own crap out before roping others in. But I got roped in and that's partly on me. Tough experience as a first relationship. Hopefully better ones ahead.
just their forays into relationships and behaviours

I will just add to this btw, not sure if anyone else would feel the same. But this is probably why my gut told me to be cautious, I mean she was pushing for me to stay over etc and I of course would have gotten there, but didn't want to too soon because of the fact she had a house she had once shared with her ex, that he had bought with his fortune, and the house was still partly in his name - it just freaked me out a bit.

I hope the poms lose the soccer in brutal fashion. Maybe two - nil, up after 10 minutes. Then Italy scores 2 goals very late in the match... maybe from some majestic Italian diving. Can't decide whether an extra time loss or penalty shoot-out loss would be more fun?

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

There’s the rub. 6-10 days fermenting in a fermenter, 4-6 weeks fermenting in the bottles. About 8 weeks all up

And you drink bottlo beer for 8 weeks while you wait for the first batch.

I did home brew for years, loved drinking it..got lazy with the cleaning though.

I stored mine in the roof and only waited 2 weeks before fridging and sampling..

Hi Q,

Home brew starter kits vary in price mate. Anywhere from $80-$200 depending what brand etc. Everything you need is in the kit with pretty easy instructions. I haven’t been in the game for ages and Fui is the modern day home brew dude but here’s what I can add.

The starter kit has the keg+lid, all bit and pieces as well as yeast, sugar, beer satchet etc.

The thing you’ll need to get is beer bottles. Don’t waste your time with stubbies..you need long necks.
Find your local recycling centre and buy them. As for price ? I’d only be guessing. The brew keg is 20L so you’ll need (doing quick math)..26.6666667 large bottles.

Don’t be disheartened by the first batch or two Q. Home brewers learn tricks along the way and improve the taste. The half inch of dregs in the bottom is a special treat. Enjoy that mate..

Fui, where are you ?

Buying longneck bottles from recycling centres? Why wouldn't you buy full ones and drink them, then store them somewhere? 26 longies is a good weekend at Qs house.

I remember my mum buying me a Coopers home brew kit in the mid 90s. Still in the garage unopened. Too much effort for my liking.

Peej got most of it covered. Do yourself a favour Q and get yourself to the nearest Country Brewer. I’ve been to a few stores, and they all know their stuff, and are happy to throw you their pearls of wisdom. My local one in Prospect has shared with me a few recipes as well.

https://www.countrybrewer.com.au

It’s true, don’t be too put off by the first batch, just use it as step to get the eye in. I got some advice to start with Cider, because the technique is the same, but it’s less prone to error. Otherwise start with a stout. With stouts, you can totally muck it up and it’s still good. Your lagers, pilsners etc need to be a bit more precise.

All up, I think I spent about $80 on my first kit. That was fermenter, all the little gadgets, a bottler etc. I agree with going for long necks. For reference, 20L of stubbies is about 50 bottles, so a couple of hours bottling those.

Bottles, I found a brew shop that sold bottles for $0.50 a bottle, and they’re a once off payment, because you just recycle them over and over.

It works out cheaper in the long run also. I can do 50 stubbies at about $0.90 a bottle, so that should keep Mrs Q happy.
