I think Stokes is also recovering from a wrist injury. He posted something on Instagram recently of him finally being able to grip a bat.-TW- wrote:Stokes is on indefinite personal leave, Archer has an elbow injury

Re: The Cricket Thread
Travis Head just flayed QLD.
230 from 127. 28 fours, 8 sixes.
100 off 65, so the next 130 from 62.
DAAAAAMN!
SA 391/8.
Weatherald 97.
Can someone explain why SA had a Max 48 overs, but QLD get 50?

They didn't, QLD started with 47 then it rained again so now it's 44Matt wrote:Travis Head just flayed QLD.

The total was increased because SA lost the 2 overs
They're not getting remotely close anyway

TBF, if someone scores 230, you're probably not getting close.
Re: The Cricket Thread
A bit of junk time hitting got them to 309, still 70 odd short of the revised target

Doesn't sound like it from Paine's comments , at least not for the first test. May be Marcus Harris

Re: The Cricket Thread
With Khawaja hitting some runs there may be another option...
Re: The Cricket Thread
Khawaja is the obvious option if Puckers is out.
Head has to be at 5 too imo.

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Head is a waste at international level, but I don't see any better options.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I mean it's between him and Wade, I'd probably take him right now

Re: The Cricket Thread
Yeah it's a hard one. A bit of a left-field option would be Maxwell but just goes to show how shallow the pool of talent is atm. 5/6 have not been great positions for Aus for quite a few years now.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Head looks like a guy who will get 20-30, but cant keep his head down long enough to get past 50.
Uzi is much better than given credit for, and TBH, has a better record opening than at 3.
Harris is a waste of space at Test level. Just clips it to midwicket or square leg too often.
I hope someone puts their hand up from elsewhere.

7 50s and 2 100s in 31 innings is not terrible going

Re: The Cricket Thread
I don't think it should even be a discussion unless their form drops. Khawaja and Head should be in the team if Pucovski is out imo.
Head has been groomed for ages its time for a proper cemented crack at that middle order for him. His tactical nous is also a positive if he proves himself a stayer in the team.

Aussies battling against India in the warm up match. Have we got anybody under 30 in the team?

Re: The Cricket Thread
James Pattinson has retired from Test cricket. He will play on for Victoria. Fast bowling takes a toll on the body and he rarely had a long injury free run to display his talent.
Australia's batting looks like being our weak link in Test cricket. We don't seem to have a production line of 2 or 3 youngsters keeping the incumbents on their toes. Instead we are into recycling the likes of Usman because there are few young blokes knocking on the door. It's not like there is no money in the sport, or lack of coaching, or flat Sheffield Shield wickets. Hopefully this year will see the emergence of some consistent batting talent.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Big framed fast bowler. As they get older it gets harder to keep pounding in for the long spells needed in test cricket. Ryan Harris was limited in that capacity. It also saw Watto become a batsman only.Matt wrote: ↑October 21, 2021, 7:36 amYup, its a worry.RedRaider wrote: ↑October 21, 2021, 5:49 am James Pattinson has retired from Test cricket. Pucowski now had 10 consussions and he's only 23. His latest one came in a net session for the Vics. I'm really uncomfortable with people contuining to push for him to play. IMO he needs to find a new sport.

I think he nearly gave it away to do something else. I forget who is best mate is, Gotch or Harper maybe(?), and they were going to do some entrepreneurial thing together.
