Re: Tokyo Olympics
I thought teams were restricted in terms of numbers. How come the USA has so many?
Re: Tokyo Olympics
Thank goodness that bit is over.
Re: Tokyo Olympics
Those drones were pretty amazing… in a ceremony that has been pretty lacking.

Re: Tokyo Olympics
I stayed to the end, but that was one of the worst Olympic opening ceremonies of all time. Mostly depressing or inane. The drones were good, as were the pyrotechnics and the cauldron. The pandemic clearly makes it hard in terms of talent that might appear and the lack of a crowd was a severe limitation. But it really was bad.

I now understand why Palaszczuk wanted to stay in her hotel.

The women’s quad team who finished 4th in their heat will need to produce the goods in the repechage or they can row their arses **** home

I couldn’t give a hoot if there’s a crowd or not. It doesn’t worry me with league, it doesn’t with Olympics.greeneyed wrote:I’m just saying how I feel. Sure, let them play. But don’t expect me to care too much.Postman Pat wrote: ↑July 22, 2021, 12:46 amHave you watched many beach volleyball games? You might not care but it’s probably a bit more important that the beach volleyballers care.greeneyed wrote:I do. Not that I want to see people there if it’s not safe. Just that… watching a beach volleyball game without the crowd involvement… it is sort… who cares? It probably would have made more sense to cancel in one way.
I’m not here to watch the crowd.

Re: Tokyo Olympics
What do people think about alternate versions of sports participating at the Olympics? Rugby 7s, Beach Volleyball, Mountain Bike/BMX racing. You could argue different skill sets, but surely 3 x 3 Basketball is taking the piss.
Re: Tokyo Olympics
Wow, that wasn’t great rowing from Australia.
Re: Tokyo Olympics
I just watched the opening ceremony mini. The drones were absolutely incredible.
Re: Tokyo Olympics
If they make it home in time for 2024, then they’ll be well positioned to make it up to the Australian people
Re: Tokyo Olympics
Australia has made a strong start in the rowing on Saturday with early wins in the heats.
Annabelle McIntyre and Jessica Morrison took out their women’s double sculls heats in a time of 7:21.75 to advance to to the semi finals.Aussie duo Sam Hardy and Josh Hicks, meanwhile won their heat with a time of 6:42.74 to also advance to the semi finals. Elsewhere, Australia’s world champion women’s four held off a fast-finishing Irish quartet to win their heat by just 0.23secs in a time of 6:28.76.

Just my luck... I must have watched the only dud rowers.

Will be challenging. Not sure those row boats are made for the open water but if they make it, it's crocodile feed time up north.Botman wrote:If they make it home in time for 2024, then they’ll be well positioned to make it up to the Australian people

I watched that with my 4 year old son, when I said that’s the end of the race he said to me ‘where’s Asutralia? Oh and why is Australia still going?’ I didn’t have an answer for him.

Re: Tokyo Olympics
Elijah Winnington and Jack McLoughlin finish their heat equal first in 400m freestyle, but slow times. Qualify equal fourth for the final tomorrow at 11:52am. That's a bit of a shock.
Re: Tokyo Olympics
He'll need to do better than that in the final if he wants to keep the "Winnington" moniker
