Not completely true. Apparently other cities had expressed interest. Nobody else had put in a bid though. Came down to Brisbane or nothing.

IOC were never going to vote any other way. Picture the scenario that they voted No to Brisbane then approached the other cities only to be told "Sorry, we weren't really that interested". Despite plenty of stories trying to make out it wasn't a done deal the truth is there was not alternative for the IOC. The voting process has basically been for show.

I've read they've streamlined the process now

So you tender your interest, they choose a preferred bid, you table your bid, the member Congress says yes or no.

Apparently Hungary, Qatar and Germany expressed interest
