Canberra Raiders circle Taupau and Paulo

Post by greeneyed »

Canberra Raiders circle Wests Tigers lock Martin Taupau and Junior Paulo from Parramatta Eels

The Canberra Raiders are preparing to make audacious plays for Parramatta's Junior Paulo and Wests Tigers' Martin Taupau should the powerful forwards come onto the open market.

Paulo and Taupau are signed to their respective clubs until the end of next season but it is understood both are considering requesting early releases to continue their careers elsewhere. The Eels and Tigers want to keep their respective stars and have been in negotiations to upgrade and extend their contracts. However, both clubs are under salary cap pressure and the pair could potentially earn considerably more on the open market.

Geez if we got Tapau........ :o

Doubtful though. Even if we got Paulo it would be a huge boost to our forward pack.

I have an inside source that says Taupau is actually going to try and sign for Chelsea F.C.
Apparently Thurston to the Broncos and Austin to seek a Proffesional career in golf.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Add Whitehead, Feno, Soli and Papa to that list coupled with our spine and you would have to imagine our backline would be in prime position to score big points....... ahh if only :cmon

The odd thing about that article is that it originates from the SMH not the CT.

I have little doubt we are negotiating with Paulo to wrangle an early release from the Eels. I also think Parramatta have no way to counter the money we can offer him, so even if his preference is to stay in Sydney I think we are a decent chance of securing him. Good move too - he is one of the best front rowers for his age in the comp (excepting David Klemmer, who is clearly from another planet).

Taupau I'm not so sure on. Sounds like we've possibly put our hat in the ring knowing he's actively agitating for a release. I doubt anything will come of that.

Would be great to get both of these guys!

I can just see the papers running with the classic 'raiders miss another big star' headline if Taupau doesn't come

Gut feeling says we'll get Junior, but not Taupau. As many have mentioned it would of course be at least worth enquiring about Tapau, which is what the article is about.
