There is no hate from me on Toots; I wouldn't trade him for another center in the comp. Club captain, sharp shooter, highest point scorer, try poacher, and all round champion bloke. I was merely saying that imo he is not a rep player yet, I think his defense could still use some work; his initial contact is heaps better than it used it be, in fact it is quite physical now, but he can have a tendency to not hit and stick.

My bad for expressing an opinion

No one is blaming your for expressing an opinion, boards like this exist so not only can you express your opinion but so that opinion can also be challenged

Blaming Croker for that try is utterly ridiculous and that's the kind of situation Croker gets unfairly blamed for constantly

It's one thing when Fergo or Hurrell are running over the top of him, it's quite another when he's being criticised for not stopping tries in scenarios like this

Saying Trevor Gillmeister wouldn't have stopped that try is ridiculous. Did you see him play? They didn't call him Axe because he missed tackles piggy

I saw him play plenty

The winger is going at full pace and the defender is coming from beside him at full pace. One of two things can happen-
1. The winger feigns to slow up and go inside to trick the defender to slowing up and he scores in the corner without a hand laid on him
2. The winger last second goes inside shoulder against a defender flying across his face and scores and easy try

The only way any defender stops that try is winger incompetence.

Gillmeister was a fine defender. He wouldn't have had the speed to stop that try and if he did, he'd have to be traveling so fast that he would have easily been beaten on his inside shoulder the way Croker was because the rugby league field is still governed by the laws of physics

The only way a try isn't scored there is incompetence from the winger

He is such an underrated player. Current top point scorer (for a team that came 10th) and in our last four games he has kicked pressure cooker goals from the sideline in two of those to put us in a position to go on and win a game and save a game in another.

But yeah let's punt him to Mounties for a player that really has proved nothing yet, except how often he can get suspended.
Yes his goal kicks under pressure were great.

But he also missed a few easy ones in those games and shouldn't have been in that position to need to kick them.

Plus with Sezer in the team an argument or basis of taking his goal kicking into account doesn't hold anyway weight to him staying in 1st grade imo

I'm not saying he should be dropped, I don't think that that at all - just saying his goal kicking shouldn't have any weight now we have Sezer (and let's face it it hasn't been all that solid so far this year).

On a side note: if we somehow had a top notch fullback land in our lap like a Tedescoe, RTS, Munster etc I wouldn't even have to think twice about moving Croker to accomodate Wighton at left centre

Ha. We see try saving tackles all the time from fullbacks/wingers/centers in the modern game. One that comes to mind is the jack Wighton try saver against Cronulla round 1 last year. In fact the chances would be far greater of Wighton effecting that sort of tackle than most players in our team because of his technique and the way he hits and sticks in the tackle.

Again, I'm not hating on Croker, and I'm not sure why your taking it so personally pigman. Croker is a big boy and I know his actions on the field will prove any doubters wrong. But to say no one would stop that try is just outrageous. Even for you

Not from that position we dont, the fact your go to example is over 12 calender months ago tells you all you need to know about how rare it is. And when they occur, its usually because of winger incompetence.
He was on a hiding to nothing coming full speed across the attackers face a metre out from the try line.

Croker did all that could be expected of him, he got himself into position to put some body contact on the ball carrier trying to force an error. But expect him to hit, stick and save a try from that position is absurd.

A lot of "might's" and "could's" in that piece of fiction, but I can think of one highly paid fraud in that list that we should be happy to release early, irrespective of our cap situation.

Surely no NRL club is stupid enough to take Frank off our hands. I think Ricky has to push him to take a 3 year retirement contract in the UK now, while he may still be seen as somewhat desirable.

Vaughan will get some monster offers. I'd think in the 500k range. Hopefully we kept enough in the kitty to keep him.

I know, that's why I specified NRL club, then proceeded to state that UK would still find him somewhat desirable...

I think it is ideal for us to lose one of FPN or Lima for next year. Paulo takes their place and is an upgrade on either.

Isn't Vaughan signed to end 2017? We won't be letting him go before then.

We have a squad on the up, can't see us letting any of our improving players leave early. Those on the downhill slope, different story.
