Fearless predictions for season 2017

Post by greeneyed »

RUNNER-UP — CANBERRA RAIDERS

THE scary part of Canberra’s rise in 2016 is that it happened when the club was rocked with countless injuries to key position players.

The Raiders will surely be stung by the loss of star players to State of Origin selection next year, but that is the only rain cloud on the horizon for this team on the up and up.

Ins: Jordan Turner (St Helens)
Outs: Lachlan Lewis (Bulldogs), Sisa Waqa (rugby union), Zac Woolford (Bulldogs), Sam Williams (Wakefield)

If the Raiders players comeback next season hunger and determine they will make the GF. Young teams that have success early have a history of expecting success instead of putting the hard work needed to make a GF.

Nothing less than Top 4 and Prelim. I fully expect us to be in the GF though.

Fearless predictions for season 2017

Post by Botman »

Top 4.
I honestly think that's all you can predict
Be one of the last 4 standing ready to compete for the top prize and then it comes down to performance and luck on the day

We didn't get much luck in 2016, so hopefully we're due a little.
That's what I predict and expect of this club in 2017, to be there in the final 4 ready to compete for a premiership

Massive improvement in the halves needed IMO, teams next year will target our strengths and shut down the flanks

Top 4 and grand final, 2017 shapes as even tougher comp than this year, Panthers should be better, Eels won't lose points, Rabbits and Roosters can't be as bad as they were this year, can't count on Broncs having that huge losing streak again.
I bow down to thee oh great Nickman, the wisest of the wise, your political adroitness is unsurpassed, your sagacity is unmatched, your wisdom shines through on this forum amongst us mere mortals as bright as your scalp under the light of a full moon, never shall I doubt your analytical prowess again. You are my hero, my lord, my savior, may you accept my offerings so you continue to bless us with your genius.

We'll finish top 4 with a points differential better than this years

Croker will finish top point scorer yet again

Boyd will play for NSW (Vaughan won't)

One of Croker or BJ will play for NSW but not both

Mounties win the premiership

Fensom will play at least 10 FG games

We'll lose as favourites in Golden Point as part of a 3 game losing streak and the GH will go into melt-down

Captain Obvious, more players targeted by the Dragons.

2016 we were the best side in the comp, we should win it next year with a bit of luck from the refs.

There will be a lot more competition next and the draw won't be as easy obviously.

Roosters will be strong again and Warriors should be good as well. Broncos may slide but you'd think Penrith will be very good.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Due to our huge success and entertaining play, Ch9 decide to mix up Friday night games and we end up with 10 for the year.

LOL. Saying the Raiders will finish top 4 is not a 'Fearless Prediction'. I'm going balls out and say we will miss the 8.

We got a favourable draw this year but we are easily the up there with Melbourne imo as the best 2 teams in the competition.

Top 4, and from there it's a lottery.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Top 8 position. As always a key will be injury, suspension and loss of form. Imo we have less depth in the outside backs, halves and possibly prop. As always there will be players who improve, some who decline and other who plateau. We had a large number of improvers this year headed by Papa, Boyd, Rapa, BJ, Hodgo, JC, Priest, Bateman and Jack as the year wore on. Tapa, Junior and EW proved to be astute buys.

I don't think Edrick or Austin were as good this year. I like Sezer but I don't think his form matched the hype generated before the season started. Lima was a surprise packet to me but injury cut his season short and at his age I don't think we can ask much more than what he was able to give. Fensom was overtaken. Baptiiste did what he did the year before for mine. Clydesdale provided about what I expected, solid depth.

Given some of the reported player payments we have to be pushing our salary cap limit. Losing Brenko and Zac Woolford has taken two of our brightest young prospects away. Loss of Sam Williams and possibly Paul Vaughan will mean rookies will have to be used or players reshuffled into unfamiliar roles. Some sides will improve in 2017 and I think the two Grand Finalists will decline. I don't think either will be Top 4 next year.

That's a prediction, or a desire?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I totally expect Top 4 if the team remains healthy but we are a couple of bad injuries away from missing the 8 as well.

Absolutely. We were unbelievably blessed with depth this year. The Mounties we had was better than some of the Furner/Dunneman/early Stuart outfits.

If we lose both our halves in round 1 like we did this year, we will definitely find it harder. And god forbid if Hodgson goes down long term
