I guess we don't have much of an option apart from Turner and I'm a lugged skeptical about his speed as well

Will Whitehead be on Linnett or O'Neill? Linnett is trash and O'Neill is less garbage. Whitehead would cover Linnett comfortably.

He'd be on O'Neill

So Sia would be back in the 2nd row?

The other player that strikes me as a potential centre is Sorensen. He is quite small and agile for a backrower.

Sorensen reminds me a bit of Jake Forster. He looks good in NSW cup but I wouldn't want him in the 17

Why on earth sign Turner if you'll shift Whitehead to keep him out?

potentially Stuart wants him to have some runs in reggies to acclimatise first before considering him for FG

They have got a much closer look at him vs when he was signed.

If they're moving Smell out you'd think he'd take Sias spot on the bench

For minimum coin, you absolutely have to have Cotric, surely.

He's going to play.

I've got him on my bench, potentially a handy cash cow

I guess it's possible that Turner might share the lock role with Bateman, assuming Sticky goes with Clydesdale. Although, I suspect Turner needs to get as many minutes under his belt as he can and for that reason I think he should be starting, perhaps at lock for Mounties.

Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer have been able to stamp their mark on the Canberra Raiders

Injury meant there was a revolving door in the halves last season, but Canberra Raiders five-eighth Blake Austin is confident him and partner-in-crime Aidan Sezer can stamp their mark on the Green Machine this year.

"I think we definitely can [be better]. We've got a team that we don't need to have our hands on the ball as much as some of the other halves in the competition, but we want to have more of a mark on this team.

"We really want to own the team, so that's something we've worked really hard on and our forward and backs have responded really well to that over the pre-season."

Ricky Stuart says Edrick Lee departure leaves Canberra Raiders 'skinny'

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart admits the result of bulging salary cap pressure has left him with a skinny squad on the eve of round one, but he's confident it won't derail the start to their NRL season.

"It leaves us skinny. It's just a situation we'll deal with short-term and plan for the future. We'll have to look at what we've got to do," Stuart said. "We've got a couple of options there. It all happened so quickly so I've just got to get my head around it.

I noticed Buddy Gordon is playing for Mounties now as well, wouldn't be surprised to see him called up if things got dire

They're going to have to get very dire before that happens.

Whilst it's sad. The more I read of this, the more I read of this I feel Ricky is playing us all. There has to be a plan, an alternative, and the brouhaha this has created is a smokescreen!

Agreed with this. Can't believe that they thought before the season we'd be like what, 600k over the cap? Something definitely in the works for later this year. Let's not forget that we signed Paulo and Tapine mid-season last year, and BJ the year before that.

Worried about our bench for Round 1 though.

With Batemen and Lima/Tapine starting and Taylor and Paulo not playing, I'm guessing our bench would be something like:

- Tapine/Lima
- Dynamis Lui?
- Turner?
- Clydesale?

You would think Priest would be a bit underdone and will probably get a few games in Mounties.

Forwards a bit thin for round 1, but then again I guess it might be a good thing we will be playing a more mobile pack up in the NQ heat.

I'd give that credence if Ricky didn't say today: "It leaves us skinny. It's just a situation we'll deal with short-term and plan for the future. We'll have to look at what we've got to do. We've got a couple of options there. It all happened so quickly so I've just got to get my head around it."

I'm a big Ricky Stuart fan, but that doesn't leave me feeling it's a plan that was always going to happen as it did...

And I'm not saying it's bad cap management. It is good.

Probably still gives us a chance of picking up some value for money players later.
