Saw the tupou rumour and it doesnt make sense to me unless ricky doesnt think cotric is ready yet and wont be for the years if tupous contract. Tupous an established winger and wont be coming for a mounties spot

Would have taken him before we released Eddy immediately. Now that Cotric is number 1 left winger, you can't just destroy that straight awaysimo wrote:Saw the tupou rumour and it doesnt make sense to me unless ricky doesnt think cotric is ready yet and wont be for the years if tupous contract. Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
I don't believe that rumour, not yet at least. I think Ricky would give Cotric a fair bit of time to prove himself in first grade before he goes after someone.
Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
The state of the cap means we can only afford a cheap player. Don't think Tupou fits, unless the Roosters need to free cap space and are prepared to wear part of the contract.
Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
So are Taylor and papa both suspended?
Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
I can't see us lettting go lee due to salary cap pressure and then picking up a better and probably more expensive winger.
They moved Cotric onto a top 25 first grade contract because they know he's ready and they knew they were going to play him. If they weren't going to play Cotric then they would have kept him on a fat under 20s contract

Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
The salary cap pressure could have been that we couldn't afford both lee and tupou on our books and in that case youd go for the one whos better. Dont think this is the case here though and cotric is going to be given a shot

Keeping him in the 20's at the risk of the Bronco's claiming he's somehow "Homesick" for Brisbane cause he had a flight transfer at the airport when he was 12Braddrew wrote:I can't see us lettting go lee due to salary cap pressure and then picking up a better and probably more expensive winger.

Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
This is what I'd go with
1. Wighton
2. Cotric
3. Turner
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Austin
7. Sezer
8. Lima
9. Hodgson
10. Boyd
11. Papalii
12. Whitehead
13. Soliola
14. Clydesdale
15. Taylor*
16. Bateman
17. Tapine
Is Taylor suspended? If he isn't I would name him and if the NRL don't allow it, it will count as a game suspension. If they do allow it... bonus!

No, and Papalii won't be suspended for Round 1. Court processes will have to be completed first. Suspect Taylor will be suspended for one or two rounds to start the season.Angy90 wrote:So are Taylor and papa both suspended?

3. Whitehead or Sia.
14. Clydesdale.
Santo is a fullback and I can't see him getting a start unless we lose Jack. I am not writing Turner off but I think he's well off the pace and needs to be playing 80 minutes, possibly at lock or 5/8th with Mounties before he'll be pushing for a spot in FG.
Clydesdale is comfortably our 3rd string hooker but we're going to need to give Hodgo at least a brief spell.

Anyone got any opinions on L. Croker as a utility?

Clydesdale might not be the best hooker floating around but at least he's a hooker. I can't see us going into round 1 in Townsville without a hooker on the benchRaiders666 wrote:I knew it was dumb.. just throwing things out there

I'd rather Croker as utility over the horse.

Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Croker wouldn't be the worst option but I think I would prefer him to play 80 minutes as the dominant half at Mounties and build his confidence. The chances of us getting through a full season without having to use Croker in the halves are pretty slim IMO and we want him ready.

Why? Santo could make a wing transition as many fullbacks can and Cotric is a 3 anyway. Turner would be better then the Horse in 14.

Re: 2017 Rd 1 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Santo is too small to play on the wing, he will be out jumped all day

So how do you play L Croker if you have him in the side as the utility? Who exactly is he coming on to replace?

Has Lachlan Croker's defence improved at all? He was thoroughly beaten in defence against the Roosters at 5/8, defending at hooker would only be harder.

Teams with a top line 9 don't play reserve hookers. Cronulla, Melbourne, Brisbane, roosters, etc generally don't run with a 9 on the bench.
With Hodgo stepping up the way he has in the last 12 months, we are in this territory now. Even when we bough Kurt on last year Hodgo still played 80 mins, he was just used as a wrecking ball for a period.
