How much do you think Keary is on, and what do you think it would take to shift him? He's looking every part the origin half tonight. I would doubt he would be anywhere near $1mill, but he plays better than a lot of million dollar halves.

450 on the books, 300 off it, 300 in career advantage, so 1 million+ for us to get him.

Jamayne Isaako

Post by Braddrew »

Ive seen enough from Isaako to say we should go after him as a fullback.
Nothing against Wighton, he is having his best season imo. But I think we need to think outside the box in terms of recruitment. Isaako wouldn’t cost us more than $300k and has the skill set to be a very good up and coming fullback. He obviously has a lot of skill as every time the bronncos need a field goal, he comes in from the wing to take it. He also goalkicks for them as a first year player. Interested to hear peoples thoughts on him, but I seriously think he would be great value.

He would cost us 600k+.

I'm not sure how he would go as fullback, he goes ok on the wing though.

Played all his juniors and Queensland cup at fullback. South Logan’s imagine if we still had them as our feeder team Isaako and Su’A ☹️

He wont cost the Broncos 600k. They will find 300k for him as a regular starter and another 50 to 100k in TPAs. Add in the career opportunity he gives up for leaving the Broncos and its 600k+ for us. Thats the kind of money we paid Tapine under a much smaller cap.

Plus all the benefits of being a Broncos star in Brisbane..

In Canberra the most we can probably do is swing them a free Parmi at the Tradies club..

Isaako had a solid game tonight but he is no pongia. I wouldn't be desperate to sign him. I would consider throwing 500k at Corey oates though to play back row and shift elliot back in the middle. Also I reckon we should try and pick up terepo. He is an aggressive prop and para have apparently told him hes not in the it plans for next year, so we should get him reasonably cheap.

Isaako is not a better player than Wighton. He seems a cool cucumber, but pass.

Oates definately hasnt got the motor to play BR. Looks gassed at wing. He also made an ultimatum to Uncle Wayne about it. Where is he still playing?

Terepo i like. I agree with this. I said as much in the scouting thread.

I’m a fan of Isaako. I think he would be good at full back, eventually move into 5/8 over time

It can't be on field stuff

Ben Barba was fullback for the best defensive team in the comp in 2016, plus put all the polish on their attack.

This year in the Super League in 13 games he has scored 15 tries, and 17 Try assists .. makes him top tryscorer and 2nd highest try assists (by 1) in the league... That's right, top try scorer AND 2nd top try assists.

He's just an excellent fullback

I’d love to get barba!!

Also I think Corey Oates deserves a shot at 2nd row with someone. I watched him develop from a youngster, he has always been a 2nd rower and has done well. When he filled in at 2nd row for broncos during origin a couple of years back had a blinder. Can slot goals from
The sideline too (not that we need a goal kicker)

Anyone seen much of Tui Kamikamica? My Fijian work mate has big wraps on him. I just checked and he's off contract with the Storm this year and wouldn't cost too much.

He goes alright.

But I reckon Kafa Timikalifou is a better prospect..

Terepo is a good impact prop to carry on the interchange. Would improve our bench I reckon.

Without knowing how much room this would leave us under the cap, I would be all for us letting Paulo, Austin and Sezer go, and using their money plus Boyd's to target a halfback, fullback and one reputable prop.

If we could get a decent half who can direct most of the play, I wouldn't be against Wighton going back to 6. Say we picked up someone like Isaako for fullback, Klemmer for prop and Terepo for depth, we'd be looking pretty good.

Don't see this happening but it's definitely the direction I'd be heading.

I think it's pretty obvious why people are toying with the idea of making him a 6. It allows him to maintain the best attributes of his game which is running/ball playing a nd defence and mitigates the worst part of his game which is his positioning as a full back when we're defending. I know he was rubbish there before but this version of whighton is a vastly different player to the one that played at 6 previously.

The bottoms line is that we have 4 top line centres in our squad, and at least 2 of them will always be playing out of position. And arguably the 2 best centres are currently playing fullback and wing.

If Jack does get sacked, it actually opens the possibility of balancing our squad better. but I think if the possibility of signing a genuine fullback appears, like Barba, we have to jump on it. That gives Cotric another year in the wing to develop, shifting to his natural centre position in 2020 when BJs contract is up.

Yep pretty much. I think Jack would be pretty average at 6 if he had a rubbish halves partner. He would need the halfback and Hodgson to take on the majority of kicking, and to play off the back of his strengths. Would be better than Austin imo.

Make that top 2

I watched most of the game Bateman and Sutton played for Wigan playing in the magic weekend.

Sutton will be a decent bench prop. Good work rate and involvement and he hits the line hard, usually finds his knees and gets a good ptb. He does have a gut on him though and when he hits the line he drops like a sack of spuds. Wont be winning man of the match but will do thr job.

Bateman was playing center so it may not be representative but I can't see him starting for us. He is small and got dominated in tackles a lot, and he also bounced of a few tackles in defense. He is very involved though with a very high work rate. To get the wraps he gets I can only think he is like Tonguey and turns up in the right place at the right time a lot.
