Yes I might be half cut but **** were the last 5 pages all about? As to JB good luck to you and your family in the future and if you can somehow lead us to the promised land this year all the better you will be a Raiders legend for life.

AUDIO: Former Canberra Raiders star John Bateman has been linked with a return to the NRL, says Triple M's Brent Read. A couple of NRL clubs are interested, but a return to the Raiders is very unlikely: https://www.triplem.com.au/story/ready- ... urn-185166

Are you proposing that coastal town between Durras and Broulee should be renamed Wankers Bay?

Yep - but given Don can hold a 25 year grudge with Buzz I’d say he would be far too pig headed to get over himself and do what’s best for the club

I'd love to have him back, regardless of his GF week shenanigans. I get the impression after he chimed in on the George Williams stuff that it is highly unlikely though.

Well it's Buzz who;s constantly taking shots at Don and Don never saying a word... i'd say if the grudge is being held, it's probably by buzz on that front.

Re JB. I would be fairly confident in saying neither club or player have interest in a return and the grudge is still held on both sides. I dont think there is any chance Stuart would allow him back in this footy club. Still he's a world class player at a position of need and has a impact on teams competitive nature and mentality that is rare. I'd try to mend the fences if i were Stuart.

If anyone has been watching him play he has been pretty average. Lots of injuries.
I think his body isn’t handling the way he plays and I doubt he’ll recapture 2019 form again particularly at an NRL level.

And, as noted above and elsewhere the selfishness of GF week antics, the selfishness and the farce of his departure, his role in the Gwilly BS and the Scott business last week totally confirm as GE said that he is trouble.

Once upon a time the reward was worth the risk but now given his breaking down body and culture destroying selfishness I say whoever is interested in him are welcome to his overpriced instability.

It's funny how we think players that performed well a few years ago, had a major shoulder operation, will perform the same again in the future. A bit romantic and naive. Much like Hodgson in 2016 - great player then, but different player now. Bateman would want top dollar, around $800,000, but no one in the NRL were prepared to offer him that in 2020 when he and his agent shopped him around. But he's not better than Kikau, Murray (when he plays there), or Crichton. His 2020 output was much less than 2019, with only his first game back v Nth Qld match winning. He played well against Broncos and Canterbury, but couldn't match the big boys when we played Penrith and Melbourne. Like Cotric, let him line up against us.

Talent and performance is one thing.
Bateman was never better than Kikau or Crichton as a footballer. But he gave the whole team a toughness and an intimidating edge that was absolutely invaluable. But there’s a balance there and if he is shot physically that aura might dissipate considerably. If he’d played out his original contract and was a Raiders in ‘21 would be higher up the ladder? I think so

I'd be more interested in any NRL game that has him in it, Raider or not. He's good to watch. Bit of a bell end, but good to watch.

No way he comes back to Raiders. I think he'd make a really good lock in current rules. Probably still a good edge too.

Can't say I've seen him play since he left though.

He'll just go to the highest bidder, as is his custom. Hopefully Roosters can have him and keep their mitts of Tapine

Not the stories J Mac told me in our corporate box once!

Single handily changed the culture and mentality of the club!

Give him what he wants

That's the concern for any club signing him
He was still a good player post shoulder injury and a rabid competetor but he didnt have the same impact with ball in hand

I've been watching SL religiously. Brian Carney was talking in the Wigan v Leeds game on how the injury + the fact he is playing at lock is the reason he isn't making as much of an impact. Said that while on paper he makes sense as a 13, we essentially knew how to unlock him more by playing him on an edge.

Wigan were held scoreless by Leeds and Johnny couldn't do a thing about it. They were booed off the pitch.
