Not the stories J Mac told me in our corporate box once!
Single handily changed the culture and mentality of the club!
Give him what he wants

Yes he did, and then? A lot of whispers that he ruined it... I don't have any inside info but a lot of people have that view
Purely my impression but what I think happened was that initially he was a massive influence in reforming the culture of the club for the better.
Then as his profile grew, culminating in rave reviews and winning Dally M second rower of the year — probably nicely cultivated by his manager — he developed an outsized view of himself and quickly turned into a self-aggrandising wanker.
My opinion again: I have no doubt that if he'd have received what he thought he was worth last year he would still be in the NRL. When Wigan's offer was close enough to be competitive only then I think the family factor came into the picture and was presented as the primary consideration.

Our offer was pulled when he and his manager came crawling back. Wigan was it or nothing
Uh-huh. And is he bringing his daughter, Millie, with him this time?
Sounds harsh and cynical, I know, but who knows whether the country will still be in constant lockdown cycles next year. He probably won't be able to bring her over for a quick visit. That's likely to impact on his playing form, regardless of whether his shoulders are shot or he's being played out of position.
Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.
MEMBER NO.: 4500 (before they changed the numbering system).
Did the players like him much? And would they want him back? Just wondering after that Curtis Scott story. Despite Scott’s turbulent time at the club you hear lots of stories of players liking him and being mates with him. Same with Gwilly. Heard none about Bateman.
Think of grand final week. The fact no other club bought into his shenanigans.
The guy is a pest. Was a quality player. Now he'll be lucky to play 5 more years as a has been
Let him go.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
Since the guy left we have gone down hill.
No one can deny that, Jerome Hughes pulled the same card during storms grand final week and he just re-signed. It’s a business now which everyone should be grown up enough to admit.
Love to have Bateman back but I doubt it will happen.
JB was IMO, the one two or three most important driving forces behind the club getting back to a GF, something it had not done in 25 years. And we may not see it again for another 25 years the way this club is run
Tell em what we give you give you for that in the Botman man household, Billy Bob.

AUDIO: Former Canberra Raiders star John Bateman has been linked with a return to the NRL, says Triple M's Brent Read. A couple of NRL clubs are interested, but a return to the Raiders is very unlikely: https://www.triplem.com.au/story/ready- ... urn-185166
It seem like this is a slow news week... What exactly in that "story" actually has any substance (I read the article too and it was just as garbage)? People have really caught on to "outrage sells" and will just make up any crap now.
I will never forgive Bateman for pulling that stuff during 2019 GF week. Just incredibly tactless.
It doesn't matter who he signs for, he's clearly not a team player and if he thinks he can get an extra $50 somewhere else it doesn't matter if he's on a five week or five year contract, he'll have his agent in the media playing the 'poor homesick Jonneh, he's got a daughter and the big mean football club are keeping him from her' line.
Tigers are welcome to him.
Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is just the train that's about to hit you.
Hi shoulder is shot. He was told by the surgeon here in Canberra that he should retire. That’s why the Raiders let him walk……it’s obvious from his form in the ESL this year that his shoulder is done.
He’s just eking out the last of his career before he retires….good luck to whoever picks him up
wigan are currently running 4th in the super league with a negative points differential going 13 and 9.
If I were running the tigers and looking for english talent, I would be looking for someone younger, less injured and potentially playing for catalans / st helens...
Bae has just dismissed the rumours as nonsense on his twitter
we've been here before and JB isn't always truthful with his public stories so im excited for the next stage of things

Bit like he denied everything that Hooper said that turned out to be 100% true.
I wouldn’t trust the bloke as far as I could throw him.

Former Canberra Raider John Bateman shoots down claim Australian girlfriend is homesick in England
Fiery ex-Raider John Bateman has dismissed suggestions he is angling for an NRL return to appease reportedly homesick Australian partner Amy Reilly.
Bateman and Reilly have both taken to social media in response to suggestions the England international was considering a move back to Australia, after being linked with the Wests Tigers.
