Backline picks itself as they’re the only ones available. Forwards depends on availability of bateman and CHN.
Don’t know the story with with Paps and Taps with their flu jab. Story with AFB this week was a big vague. Community sport has recommenced in QLD so no sure why NRL players are still required to have a flu shot when others don’t.

Assuming Papa and Taps have the green light.
Based on Sticky's presser he sounded super confident in Bateman being back as he was REAL close. He said CHN is more of a fitness thing I don't think they'll play him next week unless they absolutely have to if Papa and Taps are out.

Bateman and CHN straight in for mine. Cowboys a great team to get straight into it.
Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Gee that injury list is ridiculous when you double it down with the releases of Murchie, Bateman and Collins.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
If CHN is capable of playing even 20 minutes it’s worth getting minutes into him ahead of KOD imo

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
If the antivaxxers can't get in we might be struggling to make any metres
The pack got out muscled by south's imo. They had less ball but made more overall metres. Go forward was a massive issue and has been this year. Papalii and Tapine have both been making excellent metres themselves though.

That’s because our 2nd, 3rd and 4th props are out long term. It’s a pretty simple answer to why it’s happening.

Ricky usually just starts guys he needs to pump match fitness into and plays them until they drop, so JB straight in.
The caveat with that is that CHN hasn't even been training with the squad so sounded like he was less certain of him. He'd also affect cohesion even more than a rookie as he doesn't know the plays etc. So he's off the bench, spelling Young at lock.
Almost have to juggle it this way as otherwise we end up a prop short on the bench.
Rapana at FB will be interesting. I thought he had the potential to play there years ago- he has all the skills and vision and has no problem directing others. Bit of a loose cannon though. He'll get a bit more space there and we might finally be able to see just how much running he has in his legs. He was great vs Souffs. Getting his experience back to the club REALLY paid off.

James Hooper reckons Bateman will play in the centres. He also thinks we can't win a comp without hodgson.

I know this week is what the team needs to be 100% focused on getting the 2 points. But I really hope we could find a way to be well in control of the match. I think Papa might need some reduced minutes soon or he might burn out.
Who is everyone else cheering for in the Panther vs Sea Eagles game? I just can’t work out which winner would be better for us.

Panthers, Sea Eagles are 2 points behind, Panthers are 5 ahead.
If we win and the Panthers win it buys some breathing space

Bateman in the centres.
Surely Tapine can play in QLD if Cartwright has been up until now. Either way, if the players are in a Covid bubble, I'm reasonably sure the risk of NRL players getting the flu are tiny.

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Why would we use a fill in in the centers when we’ve got Smith-Shields who was sensational on the weekend? Seems a bit of creative license from the couple of journos who have suggested it.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Hes far from a fill in. He played centres for England! But I totally agree, I'd play HSS in the centres. Hes a long term prospect and could go on to be our next JC.
If they choose bateman over him though, I can only assume its to protect the kid. Which I dont agree on, as we have such a good team and culture at the club.

I have no real issue with trying HSS in the centres. He played very well in his debut.boomer wrote: ↑July 27, 2020, 7:17 amHes far from a fill in. He played centres for England! But I totally agree, I'd play HSS in the centres. Hes a long term prospect and could go on to be our next JC.

However, I'd certainly consider bringing Bateman back in at centre rather than second row if he, Tapine and CHN are cleared to play. We suddenly have more depth in the forwards than we do in the backs now that CNK is out for a couple of weeks.

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
If Scott isn’t being considered (injury or otherwise) I see no reason Sticky won’t back HSS for a start just like he did Semi. Bateman is a walk up start in his preferred position after what he’s done there. I’d only consider moving him if:
- Due to further injuries, god forbid, there’s no other option but to shift him to centre
- CHN consistently impresses in training and off the bench to the point you have to start him, at which point you might consider Bateman to lock
Aside from there maybe being no spare backs this week, I think a back on the bench is a luxury we can’t afford atm, especially if Tapine is missing.
1. Rapana
2. Cotric
3. Croker
4. Smith-Shields/Scott
5. Valemei
6. Wighton
7. Williams
8. Papalii
9. Havili
10. Lui
11. Bateman
12. Whitehead
13. Young
14. Starling
15. Sutton
16. Tapine/O’Donnell
17. O’Donnel/CHN
Still a pretty strong side all things considered.

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
I’m just of the opinion that the forwards are way too skinny to play a world class one at centre. Smith-Shields at centre > KOD in the pack. KOD has done a great job but he doesn’t look a first grader yet imo and has played what 15/20/14 in his 3 appearances. CNK may only be gone a week or 2 as well hopefully.
Bateman/CHN (if available) can sure cover the centres but playing them there would be a real waste of what they offer considering how centres play down the tram lines and have the least impact on the game of any position.
The real conundrum will be if Bateman/CHN/CNK/Scott/Tapine? are all unavailable this game. What would we see? Either Timoko or Frawley/Williams as the 17th player?

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
Bateman is passed being an option at starting centre. Whitehead last year was defending better at centre than Bateman was. Even CHN would be a better option there given his speed but that would still be a worse choice than playing the actual outside backs we have available.
