Sam Williams' heart kept him in Canberra with the Raiders, turns down deal with English club Wakefield
Sam Williams has rejected a three-year deal, starting in 2021, offered by Wakefield Trinity. Being close to family and friends was a factor, but so was the chance to do something special with the Raiders.
"It was a really good offer and something that I certainly don't want to rule out going forward. It just wasn't the right time. We've got a squad here that can do something special next year. At this stage of your life there's a lot more to it than just football as well.

I might just watch the first half annihilation of Cronulla again. Almost my favourite game of the season.

Such a champion. I was so happy watching him captain the club to victory.
Re: Sam Williams' heart kept him in Canberra with the Raiders
I feel like he really must have something solid lined up for here in the near future (e.g. coaching), otherwise it seems a bit odd to reject a three year deal where he'd be starting and presumably on fairly decent coin..... unless it's a family thing and Covid is causing too many issues.
Either way, he's an asset to the club and I'll continue to be happy having him here.

Also said uncertainty around travel and borders etc kept him here.
Last time he was over his parents came over a few times, so I guess it's a bit of a reverse Bateman situation
