Its Dogs or Panthers for BurtonHong Kong Raider wrote: ↑May 12, 2021, 12:25 am Really concerned about our recruitment for 2022. Xavier Coates has gone to Melbourne, Stagg is staying, Naden to Canterbury, even Wests have signed Oliver Gildart from Wigan, meaning Joey and/or Jimmy the Jet will get the flick. We need an outside back. Broncos, Cronulla, and Canterbury seem to be linked to everyone.
Regarding a half, Burton looks good at centre, decent kicking game - replacement for GWilliams if we convince him not to take the Flanagan route. I really hope we can keep George.
Hope our juniors kick on as well.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
I like Hynes or Hoy as a FB option, esp Hoy as he is a GKer. Would mean a shift for CNK, to wing or centre. I want to see HSS and Kris in FG next yr too.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
I don’t rate Hoy at all
Pass for me
Pass for me
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Because he doesn't like the Knights.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
What does he do that's exceptional?
He's not overly quick, he's not a particularly good ball player, he's not a particularly dangerous ball runner.
He's an ok with his defensive contact, decent enough positionally and relatively safe.
There is just nothing exciting about him. He's just a solid, tries his guts out, middle to bottom rank sort of fullback.

Hynes can add something that CNK and Hoy cant. Significant ball playing abilities.Matt wrote: ↑May 14, 2021, 2:50 pmWhats the difference between him and Hynes?Botman wrote: ↑May 14, 2021, 2:28 pmWhat does he do that's exceptional?

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Im still not totally sold Hoy cant do it, but doing it in a worse side, means less chance. He was much better with ball in hand last yr than early this yr. Hoy was good when the Knights were, and not so good when they stunk.Botman wrote: ↑May 14, 2021, 2:54 pmHynes can add something that CNK and Hoy cant. Hynes has always been in a good side.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Hoy has been hyped up for a couple of seasons now. I've not seen anything to justify the hype.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Hoy's still young. Maybe he can do it. But im with NR. A lot of hype but little to show for it in FG so far.
Hynes, in a good team or not, we've seen him ball play at an extremely high level. Is he going to be that effective in a team that isn't as good as Melbourne? Probably not. But at least we've seen something from him that theoretically he can add to us. I havent seen that with Hoy.
If im replacing CNK at fullback, and assuming the replacement isnt a do it all established star i want to do be one of those archetypes
1) A guy with excellent speed, noted support player and above average ball playing for the position, the sacrifice there is likely not as stout defensively. I.E Duffty
2) A guy who's going to give us most of what CNK does defensively, but with significant upgrades as a ball player. Speed and elite footwork being the sacrifice. I.E Hynes

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Watching Hynes last week I made the comment to my mates that he was too good to be sitting behind Papenhuysen. Needs to leave Melbourne for an opportunity. Watching Hoy at Knights it's been the opposite. Comments are more like "bet they can't wait to get Ponga back".

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
All this debate around fullbacks, I highly doubt Ricky is moving CNK away from that position...
Our best would be adding strike and speed around the 2-5 positions and getting a halfback who can organise and ball play...
The likelihood is we do nothing...

Brandon Smith?
Jayden Sua?
Cotric?

Yep. I suggested him earlier as a cheaper option solely on his hustle.

No one’s that desperate for evidence

Joseph Tapine will be playing for the Roosters next season and potentially could up at Bondi this year if the Raiders continue to struggle and his relationship with Ricky Stuart continues to deteriorate. It is believed he has already inked a deal for 2022.

How often does a story that confident turn out to be Bull regardless of source trashiness. I’d say very rarely.

He is currently contracted with us til the end of 2023 so he can't have already signed anywhere for 2022.greeneyed wrote: ↑May 14, 2021, 9:52 pmIf you’re going to post things like this, you must post a link, so people can assess the reliability of it. He could still leave the club at the end of the year but only if we agreed to grant him a release.
