The game fundamentally changed. The team needs to as well.
Yes please get over the sendoff - to begin with it wasn't the ref, he was just obeying bunker instructions. To continue, live at the game not that far from my viewpoint, dunno - hard to tell. Watching the replay last night, and then again on shows today, undeserved. But it's the bunker's fault, not the refs.

As for game plan, it was massively apparent how little we use width. It's harder to see on tv because of the foreshortening effect, but there are gaps everyweher and we can only pass the ball one out. Some clown on tv today said that Hodgson has the greatest number of try assists (ever?) off a single pass; I wonder if that's because it's his go-to 95% of the time in the red zone. We were crying out for ball movement and got little - maybe a bit more than every previous home loss, but at least a little. We sure didn't do anything different at all when up against 12 defenders.

Interesting stat, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's correct.

Therein lies the issue with our attack. We were built to play direct. When we did it paid off, with the likes of Papalii, Sia and Taps playing through the middle. It got us to a grand final, so hard to complain.

The issue obviously is, when you struggle for field position and your forwards aren't constantly beginning sets inside the attacking 40, the lack of ability to go wide sticks out like a sore thumb.

You had to fully expect our attack against the Broncos to be clunky. Look at our backline. At the start of the season our first choice backline was shaping up as..

1. CNK
2. Rapana (positionally)
3. Croker
4. Scott
5. Simonsson
6. Wighton
7. G. Williams

In this game only Wighton was playing in the same role. It's a completely different team out there, with different strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully the game plan evolves accordingly.

NRL.com power rankings

13. Canberra Raiders (15)
Did what they had to do to beat Brisbane. Canberra's test is bottling what they did last week to get their season going. There are certainly some OK signs for the Raiders.

Hetherington was actually backing away based on the slow-motion vision.
