Re: 2021 Rd 19 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Probably not a popular move, but i dont hold much hope for this season... if Savage is struggling with the shoulder, id give him the week off and let him get it right. I dont want to take any risks with this guy leading into 2022.
The last thing we need is him doing some major injury and being sidelined through a pivitol off season.

Probably have to agree, although I still hope his shoulder is Ok and he's good to go. Is Bailey available for Thursday ?
If not, Raps to fullback, Kris to wing, Timoko to centre
Pls no Aekins

Savage will play - it was just a burner.
Have not being this excited over a player since Milford in '13...remember him?

Savage looked really good. Could see it on his first carry.
I get the feeling his shoulder is not a small matter though.

5 day back up against a top 4 team. I'd only play him if he was 100%, which is unlikely. Not much to be gained by testing a dodgy shoulder.Botman wrote: ↑July 17, 2021, 9:23 pm Probably not a popular move, but i dont hold much hope for this season... if Savage is struggling with the shoulder, id give him the week off and let him get it right. Savage said he did his AC 2 years ago.
Re: 2021 Rd 19 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Jack looked busted tonight. He mentioned ribs in his interview after the game. It looked like the heel of the Cronulla winger got him in the chest as he pulled out of the Jack tackle. Hopefully nothing broken but it did not look good. Five day turn around is always tough to juggle with injury which happened in the prior match. Medico's will decide who is able to front up for the next match. Tuesday selection meeting will be a tough choice day for Sticky.

The way he was holding his shoulder looked like he’d had it sublux to me. Looked like it had no strength.
But I’m no doctor or physio, so we’ll see!

If Jack is injured Frawley gets another deserved crack.
If Savage is injured Timoko also gets another deserved crack.
It is a really nice feeling waking up on a Sunday after a good win.
The win wasn’t just good; it was PURPOSEFUL.
We threw out the ultra conservative rubbish and unlocked some attacking threat through offloads and a moderately more expansive game.
I won’t be furious if we lose against the Eels, provided that we continue on in this fashion. If we revert back to 2019 ball and get flogged - we’ll that’s another matter.

Re: 2021 Rd 19 V Eels: Teams and Previews
That's my concern. Ricky only played the younger, more dynamic team because his hand was forced by multiple injuries. I'm hoping he doesn't return to plodderville once he has his full squad available. Blind Freddy can see the current style of game suits a younger, quicker team.Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑July 18, 2021, 8:17 am If Jack is injured Frawley gets another deserved crack.

The dramatic increase in our offloading suggests to me that is an instruction though. Having Starling and Savage who are quick lurking around for those offloads works better than older, slower alternatives if you want to play an up tempo game.

If Xavier and Jack are fit:
1. Savage
2. Valemei
3. Croker
4. Kris
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Williams
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Sutton
11. CHN
12. Young
13. Whitehead
14. Starling
15. Tapine
16. Guler
17. Lui
I would have Timoko over Croker and Frawley over Williams however -9% chance of that happening.

Re: 2021 Rd 19 V Eels: Teams and Previews
I'd like to see Papa and Tapine start, play a fast game, offloads and spreads, with Guler and Sutton our middles on the bench. Starling also on the bench with Timoko if Savage is available. We do not need another prop like Ryan James or Sia. Whitehead to lock. Horse needs to get fit before even being considered for FG for the rest of this year.
Re: 2021 Rd 19 V Eels: Teams and Previews
remembering Savage is 2 games into his career and about 5 games against open company (only 3 games in nsw cup), just need to be cautious expecting miracles and making calls he's now our no.1 fullback or whether or not he can ballplay because I'm thinking a kid with his feet and speed hasn't needed to ballplay in school footy.

Hors has done nothing this year to suggest he deserves to be back in FG at all. His bad luck reggies aren't playing but I don't have a place for him.Hong Kong Raider wrote: ↑July 18, 2021, 11:51 am I'd like to see Papa and Tapine start, play a fast game, offloads and spreads, with Guler and Sutton our middles on the bench. Especially if Hodgo is now taking up some lock minutes... there's just no space/need for him. Papa, Guler, Sutton, Tapine + Young/Whitehead (one of them will be a middle) + Hodgo taking a stint... I'd rather bring up a younger player like Rushton or Medlyn - Hors is gonna drop the pill and give a penalty away every single stint he plays anyway so might as well get that from a rookie who might learn from it and improve.

It was a totally different experience watching the team attack with flair and innovation, and in a way that allowed our creative players like CHN to thrive. It was still clunky at times and the kicking, in particular, needs a lot of work but it was a thousand times better than the one-out stuff we've been blindly sticking to in the face of overwhelming evidence that it doesn't work (and that all the best teams have dynamic attacks).
I was about to start disagreeing with you, BnM, until your second paragraph. It had to be a coaching decision because it was immediate and so extreme. We didn't just decide to throw a few more offloads, we threw more offloads than I remember for a looooong time. But, more than that, there was a totally different mentality. Guys weren't lining up for hit-ups, they were ready for the ball to be spread and extra passes to be thrown.
Winning is the key to feeling good but, as Mickey said, (some) losses will be a lot more palatable if the game plan is attacking and suited to our players.

Canberra Raiders five eighth Jack Wighton hopeful of facing Parramatta Eels
Canberra Raiders star Jack Wighton is hopeful of playing Parramatta with pain-killing injections, after suffering damaged rib cartilage in the win over the Sharks.
"I'm alright mate. My guess is maybe just a bit of rib cartilage," Wighton said. "I'm hoping for the best. I think I'll be alright. Once we identify where the actual ribs popped we can needle it on the spot."

Ricky Stuart admires Savage toughness of Canberra Raiders young gun
Given he was known for his toughness himself, it's not surprising that's the thing Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart most admired about Xavier Savage's breakout performance in the win over Cronulla. Savage played on despite injuring his shoulder in the second half.
"He was very good. Hopefully he can keep improving on that and keep his head and we'll go from there," Jack Wighton said.

They are staying at the same hotel. Would be very hard to keep them apart. Also pointless considering they are in direct contact during games.
