It sucks, not only because he clearly added a spark to our team, but if he had a really good end to the season in the fullback role then I could see CNK being moved to the centres next year at the expense of Savage.

Because of this, CNK will now start the year at fullback and Savage will be 'eased back into FG' like Timoko and play a handful of games next year on the wing where he will be under-utilised.

I could be wrong, but tell me the above isn't classic Rocky Stewart.

That's the sticky MO for sure
He should pot commit here... Get savage out of the bubble and down to get that shoulder sorted ASAP, and basically tell him the fullback spot is his next year and we'll see how he goes.

I guess questions need to be asked now about whether he was physically ready for first grade (given his history of shoulder issues too). As a fan I was happy to see him be given a go and do well but you have to feel the young kid who now faces surgery and rehab. I hope the club shows abit more patience now with the kid moving forward. The club has to learn from this and ensure Savage has bulked up abit and strengthened that shoulder before his next taste of first grade.

Well he's done his AC before and that wasn't first grade, so I'm not sure if it isn't just bad luck

We took the risk of bringing him into a position that endures heavy and frequent contact with his body underdeveloped. That risk hasn't paid off.

Don't bring him back until he's been given a chance to put some more size on and strengthen thanks.

AC joints are done by forces to the shoulder directly.

I don't think it would've mattered if he was 18 or 28, 80kg or 180kg, it still would've happened.

This 100%. TBH, this injury could be the end of him in the NRL. Ricky won't give him another chance me thinks.

That's a fair call. Had forgotten he was from up north
Either way get him the surgery asap so he's ready for pre-season

I had a glimmer of hope about the rest of this season for about 60 hours there.

Never mind. I forgot we are the Raiders and nice things: we cannot have under any circumstances.

Yep and once you’ve done them once they tend to be a bit of a repeat injury.

Actually not the worst result- the season is a write off anyway, unlikely to even make the 8 regardless, let alone do anything there.

Of course I wish he wasnt injured and could get some games but there's an upside.

Done now he should be able to get operated and rehabbed in time for full pre-season in the gym and training at FB.

If the club tried the half assed rehab thing they did with JB and Crolers shoulder, they end up getting the operation in off season time and miss the entire pre-season and come back half baked playing catch ups in fitness and size/strength. This way he can do a 2-3 month rehab then full training block.

Raiders excitement machine Xavier Savage ruled out for rest of season

Raiders excitement machine Xavier Savage will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

"He's not a big body at all, when you play with players you just want to play with someone that has a go, someone that's going to put their head down and have a crack," Jordan Rapana said. "Teams target him because of how light he is, they tend to pick him up and try and drag him and rag doll him around. All the back five have rallied and taken him under his wing to get a shove and try and help him to keep his confidence up by not getting rag dolled around as much.

Rapana answers Ricky's call after Raiders dealt Savage blow

Raiders veteran Jordan Rapana is confident of filling in at fullback this week and for the remainder of the season after the club's fullback stocks took another hit on Tuesday.

"I'm gutted for the young fella, he's come in his first couple of games and showed a lot of energy and spark," Rapana said of Savage.

And this is why we need to sack idiots like Stuart who leave injured players out there and then go on about how "proud" they are for them "sticking tough"... Yeah great... So glad we let a 19 year old make a decision about a medical issue which undoubtable made it worse...
