Nigel Ashley-Jones sees Scarlet after nine years in lime green
The hunt is for a new head of physical performance, with Nigel Ashley-Jones having already departed to take up an opportunity with Welsh rugby union club Scarlets. Ryan Clayton is looking after the conditioning work and Travis Ronaldson is in charge of their strength and nutrition.
"We've got to get the season done first and then we'll get a replacement," Furner said. "He had an opportunity, we couldn't match it or the length of time. Definitely the replacement could come from within."

Re: Nigel Ashley-Jones departs after nine years in lime green
The team looked a bit off the pace this year, struggling under the fast tempo. A new approach and fresh ideas might be good from here.
I thank 2 dad's for his service to the green, he did leave a positive impression during his tenure.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

He really turned our squad into a professional unit, no dramas fulfilling internally as long as we are adding the right people

Let the team down. Should have spent more time on the field as 14th man in the 2019 Grand Final.
Wish him all the best.

Nigel Two-Dads has done a great job with the Raiders in his time here. Timing about right to move in too. Fresh start for both him and the team.

I've had a chat or two with him. He hates social media. But other than that, he seems like a very good bloke! I do think it's probably good for him and the club to have a change.

Re: Nigel Ashley-Jones departs after nine years in lime green
Definitely a good time for him to leave so that the longstanding players are exposed to fresh ideas and/or perspectives. However, I wonder whether recruiting from within is the way to go. Whoever gets the job should show that they do have a different take on how to do it and back it up with research to prove that's the way to go.
Otherwise, we're going to be seeing claims on here of "family farm" or some such thing when injuries or fitness come into question.

Why would we recruit from within when our fitness issues this year can only be attributed to our internal staff?

Potentially to cut costs, given the steep decline in revenue we'd be facing.Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑August 4, 2021, 3:35 pm Why would we recruit from within when our fitness issues this year can only be attributed to our internal staff?

Would the Raiders normally cover a candidate's travel and accommodation if they get to the interview stage? I'm assuming that's what you mean.afgtnk wrote: ↑August 4, 2021, 4:30 pmPotentially to cut costs, given the steep decline in revenue we'd be facing.Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑August 4, 2021, 3:35 pm Why would we recruit from within when our fitness issues this year can only be attributed to our internal staff?
Even so, with people used to Zoom conferences, that would be a cheaper option.

I hope you're not suggesting that someone take up the job on a lower salary just so they can add that experience to their resume. Like they say in the classics, you pay peanuts you're going to get monkeys.afgtnk wrote: ↑August 5, 2021, 2:47 pmThat is not what I mean, no.yurithe1 wrote: ↑August 5, 2021, 2:03 pmWould the Raiders normally cover a candidate's travel and accommodation if they get to the interview stage? I'm suggesting that's what the club may do, given the conditions.
In no way am I for skimping in an important role like that.
