Awful way to end an awful season. Thank you all for riding through all the highs and lows (mostly) of 2020 on the forum.

It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

79th min TRY RAIDERS to Harley Smith-Shields. It is started by an offload from Papalii and Wighton gets the try assist. No conversion. It's still a paddlin'.
Sydney Roosters 40
Canberra Raiders 16
FULL TIME
The Raiders' season is over.
MATCH REPORT: Raiders' season ended by injury-ravaged Roosters
The Sydney Roosters climbed into the top four and ended Canberra's season in the process with a 40-16 win in Mackay on Thursday night.
Trent Robinson's men will need both the Eels and Sea Eagles to lose if they are to remain in fourth spot but regardless of those results they take plenty of momentum into the finals after the seven-try romp.

Well I for one would like to thank the Roosters for mercifully putting us out of our misery.

It’s actually the worst feeling going into the off-season with a sour taste in your mouth about the team and with no reasonable prospects of substantial, needle moving improvement in 2022.

Bitterly disappointing season. No other way to put it.
Seems like only we can back up and fail the way we did this year.

Would not have predicted at the start of the year that our season would end in Mackay with Frawly holding the ball 24 points down in the regular season.

think it is good to be comprehensively beaten so Ricky can't go around boasting of making the 8 or just missing out by one or two. He is an appalling coach and I doubt I will re-new my membership if he is still the coach next

Now that was a game to forget.
Re: 2021 Rd 25 V Roosters: Game Day
Cant hand wave this failure.
Stuart isnt going anywhere but if we're to get back to where we were, he needs to recognise his own failure, own it, and make significant changes as he did in the 2018 off season.

In all honesty, a true reflection on where we are this year.
Time to cut free some deadwood, have a break (fans need it, think of the fans), get a halfback from somewhere and in a month or so start thinking about how they are gonna re-float the sunken ship canberra.

Of course we don't fault the effort when the selection, bench strategy and game plan are all **** awful.

Re: 2021 Rd 25 V Roosters: Game Day
Saved our worst till last. Players like Savage very much needed for 2022. We just kept turning the footy over to the Chooks and they knew what to do with it. Poor defensive effort from too many players. Chooks 56% possession on the night and most of that was our poor handling. NRL stats say we made 15 errors in the match. It felt like more.

I'm relieved that we ended the season on that note to be honest. A finals appearance would have been a complete misrepresentation of the way our season unfolded. That game highlighted so many of our obvious problems.
Stuart needs to go back to the drawing board and realise this side needs a huge injection of talent in key positions, and some old heads need to be shipped off into retirement.
Our defence also needs to drastically improve, yet again.
Adios 2021. You were a bitch.

Kinda relieved we missed the 8. No point limping into the finals. Would just be prolonging the pain and frustration by another week.Raider of d Lost Ark wrote: ↑September 2, 2021, 9:48 pmWith the season on the line, do or die and that’s the **** they serve up.-TW- wrote:46 missed tackles, 13 errors.Raider of d Lost Ark wrote:Losing the penalty count 8 - 3

I think cronk said it during one of our sets with the ball at their line tonight... we looked most dangerous with Papalii with the ball.Seiffert82 wrote: ↑September 2, 2021, 10:06 pmYep.Botman wrote:Cant hand wave this failure.

We need to improve our attack. Attack wins games in today's game... no defence.
Must solve for 7.. otherwise its going to be really bad (worse) next year.

Lol I like it. Together with Flanagan last week, "one of the worst attacking sets I've ever seen in rugby league"... it's pretty clear there is serious work to doMickey_Raider wrote: ↑September 2, 2021, 10:09 pm Oooft Joey giving it to us.

Re: 2021 Rd 25 V Roosters: Game Day
Season review should be interesting
- Gwilly plays like a plodder and leaves in a saga
- Croker regresses exponentially
- Papa gets rested with bizarre explanations
- Tapine's partner loses it at the coach on instagram
- Scott screws up again and gets sacked
- Hodgo regresses then ends up in awkward back and forths about the club in press conferences
- Bateman chimes in and has a dig from the other side of the world
- Get questioned weekly by commentary teams on bench use and game plans
- Don't sign a single new recruit for the next season
Most coaches write books on building successful clubs, this could be a novel on how to decimate one.

I Quit after the Titans fiasco..
Very glad about my decision given what’s happened since…
Stupid coach needs to wake up in the offseason otherwise we’re in for another floundering season..

We haven't turned it up too many times over recent years, disappointing to do so tonight with so much at stake.
Not taking the gift two points on offer early in the second half to bring the gap to 6 a turning point.

2021 - the season of the crash ball - RIP
Re: 2021 Rd 25 V Roosters: Game Day
Well yes. But as I drank more it became harder to tell whether it was poor individual defence or a poor pattern - or is that it our 3/4 line don't know who's inside or outside them in any given half? Ahh I don't know.RedRaider wrote: ↑September 2, 2021, 10:03 pm Saved our worst till last. Players like Savage very much needed for 2022. Obviously individual errors are a bit of a bugger. I mean, who is going to take responsibility for Hudson Young throwing a dummy half pass at the toes of the recipient? Blame the player, sure, but why is he ever doing that? Do we have training drills that DON'T fall apart under pressure? Again, I don't know.
I wonder if picking 3 props to run on, and another 3 on the bench, might have anything at all to do with it. It's ok Red I'm not blaming you specifically!
