2021 Highs and Lows: Try of the Year
Every year, the readers of The Greenhouse vote on the highs and lows of the season just past. The Players of the Year are determined by the Fans' Choice voting, but all the other categories are determined by fan polls.
In this poll we are voting for the Canberra Raiders' Try of the Year. If there is a try not nominated in the poll, please post your selection. You have one vote in this poll.
The nominations are:
Round 1: Hudson Young: In the 55th minute, Bailey Simonsson gathered in a George Williams bomb, and brilliantly off loaded as he fell to the ground - for a Hudson Young try.
Round 3: Elliott Whitehead: In the 48th minute, Jordan Rapana and Elliott Whitehead spread the ball to Jarrod Croker. Croker broke away down the touch line, before Rapana backed up inside. The winger then put in the perfect kick ahead to the try line... with Elliott Whitehead one of three chasers there to score the try.
Round 4: Jordan Rapana: Early in the first half, George Williams delivered a stunning short pass to Whitehead, which put the second rower in to the gap. Croker then followed up with a brilliant flick pass to put Rapana over. It showed the true beauty of rugby league.
Round 5: Jarrod Croker: Soft hands from Elliott Whitehead, and a great put down from Croker on the wing.
Round 11: Bailey Simonsson: The Green Machine produced one of the tries of the year at the end of the first set of the match. Sam Williams put in a big up and under on the last tackle, with Curtis Scott recovering brilliantly and offloading to Semi Valemei. They kept the ball alive and sent the ball back across field. George Williams then produced a perfect kick ahead for Bailey Simonsson. Four points.
Round 18: Jack Wighton: Xavier Savage's stepping and running was a feature of his breakout NRL match... and set up a fantastic try for Jack Wighton early in the second half.
Round 20: Hudson Young: The match was gone, but some Wighton brilliance sets one up for Hudson Young.
Round 21: Jordan Rapana: A neat kick from Elliott Whitehead to the corner - and a spectacular bat back from winger Harley Smith-Shields set up this four pointer. Smith-Shields was suspended mid air over the sideline when he managed the feat - with Rapana on the inside to pounce on the ball.
Round 24: Jordan Rapana: Magic moment from Rapana!

For me, this was between the Rd 18 Jack Wighton try set up by the Xavier Savage run, and the Bailey Simonsson try against the Storm in Rd 11. The first wins out for mine.

I like the Whitehead Rd 3 or the Savage try.

There are some good tries on that list.
IMO
3rd, Rapa vs Warriors Rd24 for the go ahead match winner.
2nd, Smelly vs Warriors in Rd3. So many sets of hands.
But for me, 1st is from the excitement machine, Xavier Savage. Wighton got the try, but Savage gets the plaudits

Thanks for that GE, some pleasant viewing there! A couple of things - there is an individual try by Jack against the Broncs that I think should be higher up the list and reminds me Jack is a gun when he gets it together. Also hoping to see more long range streak away tries from our own half in 2022.
