2021 Highs and Lows: Tackle of the Year
Every year, the readers of The Greenhouse vote on the highs and lows of the season just past. The Players of the Year are determined by the Fans' Choice voting, but all the other categories are determined by fan polls.
In this poll we are voting for the Canberra Raiders' Tackle of the Year. If there is a try not nominated in the poll, please post your selection. You have one vote in this poll.
The nominations are:
Round 2: Ryan James, Ryan Sutton, Jack Wighton, Hudson Young and Josh Papalii: There were some great moments in defence in the clash with the Sharks. With six minutes remaining in the first half, Aidan Tolman was “ironed out like a shirt” by a combination of Ryan James and Ryan Sutton. Error forced. In the 45th minute, Jack Wighton absolutely rocked Sharks winger Sione Katoa... with a little help from Ryan James. A couple of minutes later, Ryan James and Hudson Young absolutely smashed Mawene Hiroti to force an error. And finally, Josh Papalii brought out a big “don’t argue” for Connor Tracey with just under 10 minutes left.
Round 4: Jack Wighton and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad: There were two great try savers in the first half of the clash with the the Titans from Jack Wighton and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad. Both stopped almost certain tries for Titans winger Anthony Don. Nicoll-Klokstad had earlier done well to stop Mitch Rein.
Round 6: Bailey Simonsson: With 12 minutes remaining in the first half of the clash with the Eels, Bailey Simonsson, with assistance from Caleb Aekins, somehow stopped a rampaging Maika Sivo. Sadly, there was not enough of this sort of defence in the clash.
Round 17: Xavier Savage: In Xavier Savage's official debut, he saved a try in the 14th minute - coming across in cover to tackle Brad Parker. He did just enough to force Parker into error - and the ball was not grounded.
Round 19: Jordan Rapana: The Round 19 win over the Eels was summed up by the last gasp try saver from Jordan Rapana on Eels winger Maika Sivo - with some help from Harley Smith-Shields. The match winning, hip check from Rapana encapsulated how the team did whatever was needed.
Round 22: Jack Wighton: Jack Wighton was back to his best in this clash with the Storm. Three try assists for three tries for Bailey Simonsson. But he also produced a great tackle, just before half time, on Dean Ieremia. He just smashed him.

It wasn't a classic tackle technique... but I can't go past the Rapana match winning hip check against the Eels.

Rapa's match winner was very good, but wasn't a tackle.
I've gone for the flash, the bang, of the big hit from Jacki boi.
