Will continue to struggle to create points, but Cotric could do a bit of damage if they can play up-tempo and a bit less structured with the ball.

Aggressive starting front row pair, and Thompson is another in that category, but there doesn't seem to be much depth.

Still lacking in the spine. Averillo instead of Lewis in the halves and maybe swap Cotric and Hopoate. They're paying Cotric decent money and you potentially don't get decent ROI with him in the centres. While Napa and Hetherington are decent up front it will be interesting to see how they control the aggression. I'm not convinced with Twent either.

Flanagan will have significantly less pressure on him to perform, so it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Apparently Bulldogs have signed Corey Allan from the Rabbitohs.

The Bulldogs are building a squad of players that all want to play fullback.
DWZ, Allan, JAC, and I think Cotric maybe wanted to play there too?

Averillo looks good to go for round 1. Recovering from an elbow injury.

Penrith Panthers back Brent Naden joins Canterbury Bulldogs to end 2023

Penrith have lost rising star Brent Naden as the latest Panther targeted for Trent Barrett's Belmore rebuild. A two-year deal for Naden to link once more with Barrett at Canterbury has been announced by the Bulldogs, with the 25-year-old centre starting at the club next season.

Canterbury Bulldogs club statement

The Bulldogs have added to their strike power for the next two seasons with the signing of talented centre Brent Naden from the Penrith Panthers.

The 25 year-old has committed to the blue and whites until the end of the 2023 season.

Naden, from Wellington in the Central West of New South Wales, started his NRL career with the Panthers in 2019 and has currently played in 30 NRL matches, scoring an amazing 20 tries during that time.

Chief Executive Aaron Warburton was delighted to be able to secure the talents of such an exciting young player:

"Adding someone of Brent's ability to our backline is tremendous news for our Members and fans, as we build towards the future.

Brent is a proven try scorer, with a phenomenal strike rate in his NRL career so far, and we believe that he will be part of a great backline for next season and beyond.

He has an excellent relationship with Trent Barrett and the potential to continue to improve. We look forward to what Brent will bring to the Bulldogs, and are pleased that we have added another vital piece to the squad that we are putting together to take this club forward."

Very different type of centre to what they have now. Should make a good fist of it.

A lot hinges on the success of Flanagan and Burton in the halves and they still need to resolves their dummy half issues.

It's amazing other clubs don't come for Havili really. He would be an upgrade for most but the very top clubs, imo

100% agree. To imagine we went from Waddell, Buttress, tongue and Sezer at hooker to being lumped with bloody Hodgson, Starling, Havali and the gnome all at once.

We started that way one season. I think we went up 20 zip someone got injured we lost the game and that was the end of that experiment. Back prior to Hodgson. Sure it was Seizer.

Ahh yeah, I think that was 2017. We started with Williams and Austin with Sezer at hooker (although named in the 7). *shudders*

Canterbury Bulldogs hit with big fines for COVID breaches

The National Rugby League (NRL) has issued the Canterbury Bulldogs with a breach notice for failing to take all reasonable measures to ensure its players comply with NRL Rules. The notice proposes the club is fined $50,000.

The specifics of the notice allege the club failed to immediately notify its playing squad and football staff of additional restrictions that were placed on Sydney-based NRL clubs on 17 June. It also alleges when the club communicated the changes on 18 June, that it failed to effectively communicate the restrictions to ensure players and officials understood exactly the obligations placed on them.

The NRL has also issued breach notices to players Dylan Napa, Brandon Wakeham, Corey Waddell, Sione Katoa and Aaron Schoupp for attending the Coogee Bay Hotel and Royal Hotel in Bondi on 20 June after the NRL had mandated players and officials could not attend any restaurants, pubs or bars in the Waverley or Randwick Local Government Areas. The Players did not breach any NSW Health Orders in attending those venues.

The breach notice proposes the following fines which take into account the varying salaries of the players and the alleged shortcomings of the club’s communications.

Dylan Napa $5,000

Brandon Wakeham $1,750

Corey Waddell $1,500

Sione Katoa $1,250

Aaron Schoupp $250

The players must also complete 14 days self-isolation in compliance with NSW Government Health Orders after being deemed close contacts of a positive case.

NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo said clubs had a responsibility to ensure their players clearly understand the biosecurity protocols.

“Our biosecurity protocols are the most important part of the competition, they are our licence to continue playing during the pandemic. All clubs and players have a responsibility to ensure they comply with the rules to keep themselves and the community safe,’’ he said.

“In this instance we believe the Bulldogs failed to ensure the upgraded protocols were clearly explained to their players. This sanction sends a clear message to every club that you must do everything possible to ensure players understand the protocols.

“The players also have an obligation to seek further information if they are unsure of the upgraded biosecurity advice. Given the breach took place several days after the upgraded protocols had been communicated, we believe a sanction upon the players is also appropriate. In issuing the sanctions, we have taken into account that the players had a degree of confusion about the protocols.”

The club and the players have 5 working days to respond to the Breach Notices before they are finally determined.
