About 5 weeks until our first trial game against the Roosters. Here's hoping the side can leave the fade outs in the history books of Season 2021. I'm looking forward to watching Rugby League again.

'Make a difference': Why Ricky Stuart says Canberra Raiders NRL trials are more important this year

Likely COVID-19 disruptions to the playing squad and a fresh start after failing to make the finals last year have added extra weight to the Raiders 2022 trial matches.

"I'm definitely taking these trials a lot more serious than I have been probably the last however many years I've been coaching," Ricky Stuart said. "They're going to be real necessity for game time for some players, combinations and for me to see who's going to start game one. I've got to try to quickly find some combinations and see who's going to be the guy that's making that difference come game one."

Ricky Stuart quoted as saying Jarrod Croker’s knee able to carry more training load, knee coping well. “Going really well.”

I'm glad Sticky is taking the trials seriously this year. The NRL has mandated 2 trials per team and they will be on TV so he didn't have much choice. I hope it is a positive for the Raiders in how they start the Competition.

'I couldn't run for nine months': Lean Corey Horsburgh ready for Canberra Raiders return

Corey Horsburgh will launch his bid for a round one berth in the final 20 minutes of the Canberra Raiders' first pre-season trial. The 24-year-old has stripped seven kilograms during the pre-season.

"I have done a couple of weeks' full contact now," Horsburgh said. "I think I'm playing the first trial, I'm playing the last 20 minutes when the game's a bit tired, just to get back in there. The second trial's based on performance. If I go alright I'd say I'd play in that, but you never know. I hope [to play round one]."

I know its a double header but its still a trial and I doubt any of the 4 teams will be full strength
I reckon $25 unreserved on the hill and $35 reserved seating plus booking fee is a little steep in price

Agree, that will deter a few I reckon. Wonder if Fox are trying to recoup some production costs from the NRL.

How empty was the cricket last night? Sports are going to have to rethink their pricing post Covid.

Considering the price I'm curious who gets the cash?
Nrl or the clubs?
At least when the games are taken regional for trials the locals make cash

I think a lot of businesses will have to re think prices post covid

The price of accommodation over the Christmas break was crazy!

Families have gotten into other things like kayaking, picnics etc

You want the footy priced in a way you want to go and something special at the game so its better live then replayed on the couch

Trial matches should of been $10 tickets with all money going to charity, each game having their own charity

They basically name everybody on contract who's available so don't get too excited.

Was more interested to see where the young blokes would line up. Although I suspect Ricky would just name them alphabetically again this year. Still, it had my interest.

The rabbits have named a side 1-13 plus an extended bench rather than just a list of players in alphabetical order.

It would make sense to have all the teams named, in position, on Tuesday afternoon, at 4pm, like any other week. These games are to be broadcast and it would reasonable for the broadcasters to expect it and it is reasonable for the fans, who are being asked to pay to go along, to expect it.

Trial games live on foxsports eh ?

Im not sure this is a good idea, I’ll be screaming at dropped ball, missed tackles and a 40-38 loss.

All a bit too early for the pump I reckon.

Looking forward to watching it. I intended to go to Leichhardt, but the traffic and parking that time of day on a Friday turned me off
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

NRL Team List: Raiders v Roosters

The Canberra Raiders have named their squad for the first trial game of the season, when they take on the Sydney Roosters at Leichhardt Oval on Friday night.

Jarrod Croker will captain the side and start at centre, as he returns from a knee injury which sidelined him for the back end of last year.

Coach Ricky Stuart will use the trial to give a host of young stars the opportunity to perform, with new recruits Adam Elliott and Peter Hola getting their first opportunity to wear the green jersey.

The side also includes plenty of NRL experience, with Corey Horsburgh, Sam Williams, Matt Frawley, Emre Guler and Ryan Sutton all named to start.
