2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*

Re: 2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day
Interesting that no teams have yet been named for any of the four sides who play on Friday night. Raiders v Sea Eagles, Chooks v Tigers.
I'm hoping the delay in naming the Raiders squad is not Covid related. Four out for that reason already, is enough.

Not many teams have been named for any games so far...
But considering we play in 2 days it is worrying

Re: 2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day
Why is it "worrying"?
Do we think there is a risk that because the team list hasn't been publicly released, some of the participants have gone and made alternative arrangements for Friday evening?
I expect we will probably play anyone in our top 30 squad who is fit for at least part of the game.

im on tenterhooks myself
Perhaps the team have been consumed by a localised aurora borealis.

I think it is because the girls teams were named and they are trying to give the limelight to them for a day then tomorrow the mens team will be announced.

Re: 2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day
If that were the case, two teams wouldn’t have been named at 4pm Tuesday and some more today. Or they’d have all been announced on Tuesday last week. Instead they dribbled out. There’s no actual strategy. They could be making the best of a bad situation they themselves have created. This is my view:
greeneyed wrote: ↑February 22, 2022, 5:52 pm They're… selling tickets to the game (not for $5 either) and the fans deserve to know who is playing well in advance. They're also broadcast matches, and naming teams on Tuesdays, in line with the season, is good publicity. People talk about the teams all week and journalists report on them all week. I can't see why clubs wouldn't simply be expected to announce them on Tuesdays 4pm.

Rapana is available this week.
It is obvious what will happen.
We will play our best team available for the first 30-40 mins. The forwards will rotate as normal and probably cover the first 60 mins. From half time onwards, players will come off and be replaced by be the lesser likes for the second half. By the last 15 mins none of the players that started will be on the field.
Why do I know this? Because we have had the same coach for 9 years and he does the same thing every year.

"One good trial game does not a first grader make".
I don't think he will debut a guy over a player who has been in and around the team for several years. Especially when they are both there or thereabouts at this stage?
I could be wrong obviously. We shall see i guess.

New Canberra Raider Adam Elliott relishes chance to showcase versatility in NRL trial
Adam Elliott says he expects to be showing his versatility in the Canberra Raiders' second trial at Gosford on Friday night.
"I've got a few things I'm always trying to work on. Playing on the edge is different to being in the middle. I'll probably play a bit of both at lock and second-row. Particularly the way the game has gone, it's good to have a middle that can be a bit versatile on the edge and I hope it's something valuable for us.

Semi is a really developing into a unit, very powerful looking with ball in hand. Let's hope he starts nailing some of the nuances of first grade next time he's given an opportunity.Old School Green wrote: ↑February 24, 2022, 9:12 am"One good trial game does not a first grader make".

I'd like to see more of Semi at Centre. He looked good there last week. Maybe for this trial we could see Semi and Schiller combined on the right flank. No longer Leipana but now Semichiller. I'll go now.Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑February 24, 2022, 9:48 amSemi is a really developing into a unit, very powerful looking with ball in hand. I dunno if anyone noticed, but the 7 year old ball kid throwing the footy to Semi for a tap restart and Semi knocking it on made me giggle.

Yes I did. But he didn't drop it in play, or any other ball in play, which is the most important thingnachopants wrote: ↑February 24, 2022, 10:49 am I dunno if anyone noticed, but the 7 year old ball kid throwing the footy to Semi for a tap restart and Semi knocking it on made me giggle.

Honestly, the hate on Semi on this forum is ridiculous.
The kid is a talent. He's committed and he's getting better and better.

Strong Manly side. From my quick look it seems only Harper, Aloiai and Schuster from their Prelim Final side last year are not playing tomorrow night. (And Suli has left the club)

Agree Bay53. They will be a real test for the Raiders leading into the Competition. I think we have them in the Front Row and at hooker. They look very strong in the backline particularly their 1 and 7.

Strange. Valemei in the centres again when you'd think Kris or Croker are more likely to start in round 1. Does Timoko in 3 mean he's being moved to the left? I would have been happy with either Whitehead or Young at lock but Ricky's gone and moved our best edge forward into the middle again instead...
It also wouldn't have been the worst idea to give Caleb Esera a run in one of the trials.

Re: 2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Interesting Semi gets another run at centre- even though I suspect that has more to do with keeping Croker in cotton wool and HSS injury leaving us with suddenly thinner stocks there, I do think Semi looked ok there. How he goes against a basically full strength Manly.
CHN at lock and Whitehead at #12 is the opposite of what I expected. Let's see if they play swapsies in their second stint/half.
A bit of pressure on Young to produce if he wants a nailed on spot on the edge. Ditto Hors off the bench.

Isn't Esera off to the Titans?
Re: 2022 Trial 2 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
I'd say Toots played more minutes than expected last week and thus might get 20 minutes or so out of him this week.
Another game like last week will make Savage impossible to leave out of the Round 1 team. Would have been good to see Charnze play centre this game
