I did forget about that game so that's fair.gangrenous wrote: ↑June 7, 2022, 8:16 pmNot sure I agree with that. One of the games this year he made about half a dozen errors and I think it was probably his worst game ever.zim wrote:CNK hasn't been as poor as he was last year.
I do agree that of all the decisions CNK at the back is the least egregious. But his form has continued to be disappointing up until the last couple of games where he was starting to look a bit more like the player he can be.

Good team i think, we'll give ourselves a good shout here if Papa/Wighton come through unscathed and we execute well
Re: 2022 Rd 14 V Broncos: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
With Papa playing Origin I think we may see HorsPower start this game. He made a fair go of starting against the Chooks and he was on for long minutes. It was almost a practice for this week and I have to say a smart selection choice by Sticky to give him the run last week. He could have started with Sutton. Looking forward to seeing Schiller again this week. He looked good in the trials. Broncos have Reynolds back so he will test the young bloke. Glad CHN is back from Covid. Skillful player who Xavier can follow to break open the Bronco's line.

I think last year clearly demonstrated the game has passed him by. Looks like he's now just there to help the younger kids come through the grades.Peter wrote:Where’s Sammy Williams? Has he quietly slipped into retirement?

Semi should get a spot over Schiller on the left wing and I assume this will be a Ricky late change for the game and Ill call it now with Semi scoring a double.
anyone know what the odds of a players not in the first team scoring a double?

Nailed it GM2011. Just to round it out (and so that I can ride on the coattails of your good post)…Green Machine 2011 wrote: ↑June 7, 2022, 5:49 pmI’m not a Ricky hater but a large part of the start of our season can be put down to bad team selections in my view.zim wrote: ↑June 7, 2022, 2:18 pm We're running 4-1. Really highlights how bad our first section of the season was. That Warriors game still stands out. Might be an early contender for worst game of the season.
If we've can grab this win we've got a good run into the bye that should have us in the 8.
Yes, losing your starting 9 and first choice half back would be hard for any team. Losing your first choice left centre is not ideal, but surely you have enough depth in your squad to fill that position.
1. The Valemei Experiment - this lasted 8 weeks. We moved a right hand specialist centre to the left and moved a winger into right centre. We went 2-6. The last few weeks has shown that Kris to the left centre spot was the obvious HSS replacement, but the one Stick butchered big time. Displacing Timoko from the right was dumb, and Valemei just ain’t a centre. Hell, Croker may have had his 300 games if he was picked and stayed injury free (also a specialist left centre), and we would have still gone 2-6 if not better. Lunacy
2. The Sutton Snub - any man and his dog knew based on 2021 that Sutton was 3rd prop picked after Papa and Tapine. It was always a fight between Horse and Guler, with the young guys nipping at their toes. We stuck with Guler for 6 weeks, for a 2-4 record. He averaged around 55 metres a game. As soon as Paps/Tarps came off, we got dominated and couldn’t get momentum back. We lost games because he was stubborn over a player signing for another team (and his girlfriend posting a snarky comment on social media). Lunacy
3. Super Sub Frawley - picking Frawley to start the game made sense at the time given both Hodgo and Trev were injured, and apparently he had been training there over the pre-season, but man was he bad. Elliot did twice the job the two times he had to do it.
4. Hard On For 2019 - I like CNK, and 2019 was one of my favourite footy years ever as a fan. So I appreciate the hard on for those blokes. But CNK was injured most of last year and has been out of form all of this year. Even if Stick wanted to keep CNK as the starting fullback, given he loves wasting a bench spot, not getting Savage more first grade experience was dumb. Savage has shown more then just speed, so the more first grade he plays, the better he’ll get.
Look at the team now. It actually looks solid. I’d argue it’s the best 17 we have (edit: with Rapana over Schiller) and should be top 8. I would obviously love more Rushton and Mooney, but they’ll get more experience with injuries, suspensions and rep duties.
We are that Warriors game outside of the 8 despite the selections above. If Stick had picked right earlier, I think we would be super well placed right now with the draw that we have. Should have been a shoe in for the 8.
But alas, we’re raiders fans and we’re not allowed nice things
5. Consistently picking a bench that didn’t balance out the side and consistently using it poorly

I'm keen to see Schiller get a run.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

What is with the schiller hype..
I hope he goes well, but he doesn't appear to be a gamebreaker, I would personally prefer to have rapana out there.

people see schiller having potential i guess and are excited to see him get a crack. out of all the options we have available while rapana is suspended he is probably the best one to go with.
of course we all would rather rapana, but rapana isn't available so theres nothing wrong with being excited about a player getting a shot.

Where are the Raiders faithful meeting up this round in Brisbane, is it the Lord Alfred Hotel on the top floor?
Re: 2022 Rd 14 V Broncos: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Schiller looked great in the trials, and also pretty good round 1. Fingers crossed he comes back in that sort of form.
He looks good on highlights from 21 too - played a few positions, well rounded skills. He could be a thing.

We've not arranged an event at The Lord Alfred this year, but it is a great hotel and we'd recommend it to Raiders fans over the Caxton. We did team up with Matt Cleary for an event at The Paddo for Magic Round, which went very well, but that was the only event for us in Brisbane this year.Kryptonite wrote: ↑June 8, 2022, 1:36 pm Where are the Raiders faithful meeting up this round in Brisbane, is it the Lord Alfred Hotel on the top floor?

The issue is whether we can have representatives on the ground to help arrange an event and help run it or not. We could for Magic Round, but can’t this week.The Nickman wrote: ↑June 8, 2022, 4:28 pmWell apparently "they" did it for Magic Round so I can't see how this is any different!
Re: 2022 Rd 14 V Broncos: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Not so much hype but the choices are;
Valemi- struggled to adapt to FG and needs some time learning the game imo, he was late to league;
Elija Anderson- barely back playing footy after a long injury, no FG and barely sighted all year;
Schiller- made a nice break in the trials, solid numbers in reggies and showed he can break a tackle at least in his Fg appearances.
Haven't seen much hype beyond, well he might be decent. He's kind of a rangy, awkward push out of tackles Dugan type than a pure speedster or power player.

Canberra Raiders gun Xavier Savage sets sights on State of Origin arena
Xavier Savage has his sights set on playing State of Origin.
"It's obviously a big goal and dream of mine since I've been playing this game," Savage said. "That Origin standard's where I'm aiming to be. I feel like Origin's even bigger than Test match games. "So that's probably where I set my standards at, so definitely got to be learning off the best in the game.

Canberra Raiders young guns confident of replacing Jordan Rapana
Jordan Rapana might be the oldest player in the Canberra Raiders backline, but he's arguably the one that brings the most energy.
"It's going to be tough. The back three, we've got to pull our sleeves up and get more carries and just be a bit better than we were a couple of weeks ago," Nick Cotric said. "We've just got to work hard because Rapa takes a lot of carries and does a lot of work for us too, so we've got to step up in that way too."
